Job description
Develop, review and update policies and guidelines to support the BFI standards, in consultation with all stakeholders, and in response to any new relevant information, audit results or feedback. Ensure all clinical staff (midwives, nurses, nursery nurses, MSWs, doctors, students) involved in the care of mothers and babies are orientated to the policy during their first week of employment. Plan, deliver and evaluate education programmes to allow staff (as above) to implement BFI standards according to their role. Develop a training curriculum for each staff education programme which includes a range of teaching methods and styles, including individual 1:1 practical skills review sessions, self-directed learning and formal classroom based or virtual teaching.
Develop a programme of updates to ensure staff knowledge and skills are maintained and to present any new information, informed by ongoing audit results. Develop mechanisms to ensure that all relevant staff attend the education programme and maintain training records. Support the development of Infant Feeding Supporters.
