What You Will Achieve
You will oversee and manage a growing team of material characterisation scientists supporting the Pfizer Global Supply Organisation with troubleshooting investigations, product understanding and proactive material source changes by application of advanced characterisation techniques. You will need to be prepared to combine people and project management with the demands of also having a scientific laboratory based role, where you will be able to lead, design and deliver a broad range of characterisation methods. As a Manager, you provide guidance to scientists to deliver creative and impactful project outcomes, with your planning skills helping with resource requirements, and providing areas of improvement for products, processes or services. Through your comprehensive technical knowledge of principles, concepts and theories in materials science, you will work towards advancing new concepts and methodologies. You will be able to take a leadership role to facilitate the sharing of the outcomes from the laboratory team with the PGS customers.

How You Will Achieve It
Planning and delivery of characterisation data packages which provide fundamental understanding of pharmaceuticals for both reactive investigations and proactive product attributes.
Creative thinking which maximises on potential of characterisation approaches and team members to meet the evolving needs of PGS customer base.
Determination of solid state attributes of API’s, excipients, drug products and packaging materials to enable understanding of composition and impact to manufacturing performance.
Provide understanding of materials (from particulate to bulk formulation level) through delivery and leadership of a broad range of methods, from microscopy, spectroscopy, particle size, surface, thermal and materials assessments - areas of leadership will be defined based on successful candidates’ skills and sharing with other newly created team leader positions.
Using theoretical and practical knowledge of the manufacturing processes for both active pharmaceutical ingredients and drug product to enable characterisation data packages to underpin API, formulation and/or processing changes.
Identification, evaluation and implementation of novel characterisation and analytical technologies, along with development of existing technology platforms to ensure ability to respond to all customer needs.
Evaluating, interpreting, and reporting of results through presentations and technical reports, particularly translation of scientific output and technical content into a language understood by wide customer base.
Critical technical review of scientific output of team and ensuring compliance with specific laboratory standards.
Lead projects, provide guidance and manage own time to meet objectives that are aligned with business needs.
Plan and schedule project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools for self and team.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree
Proven relevant of experience
Demonstrated experience in application of characterisation methods to provide understanding of solid-state attributes of pharmaceutical products.
Proven ability in multiple areas of materials science e.g solid state, particle size, particulate matter, solid dosage form elucidation, formulation and bulk powder attributes.
Knowledge of the workings of pharmaceutical manufacturing, and associated processes Experience working in Pharmaceutical Good Manufacturing Practices {also cGMP} environment
Pro-active and has a creative, entrepreneurial attitude with evidence of ability to execute key projects
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Proficiency with computer and software applications
Desirable but not essential: Master's degree
Specific experience managing pharmaceutical/technical/medical devices projects
Knowledge and certification of operational excellence methodologies (IMEx, Six Sigma and Lean etc.)
Work Location Assignment: On Premise
