WHAT YOU’LL DO
This is where it all begins. We develop the new concepts that go on to become new Jaguars and Land Rovers. So, the emphasis is on building strong strategic, technical and financial foundations right from the start.
The Cell Teardown and Materials Testing Technician is responsible for carrying out physical teardowns of cells, making and measuring samples, and conducting metallographic samples and tensile testing in support of the Metallurgist. The role involves working with a range of materials and equipment to ensure that testing is conducted accurately and in compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- Conduct physical teardowns of cells and prepare materials for analysis under the guidance of the Metallurgist.
- Make and measure samples accurately and in a timely manner, recording data and observations as required.
- Conduct metallographic samples and prepare specimens for tensile testing.
- Perform tensile testing on materials, following established protocols and procedures.
- Record and analyse experimental data accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure it is calibrated and in good working order.
- Troubleshoot issues with equipment and propose solutions to ensure that experiments can be carried out effectively.
- Communicate results and observations to the Metallurgist and other team members.
- Maintain laboratory records and ensure that all data is entered accurately and in compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines.
- Participate in regular laboratory meetings and contribute to discussions on experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation of results.
- Assist in the preparation of reports and presentations on research findings.
- Ensure that laboratory procedures and protocols are followed to maintain a safe working environment.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
- Knowledge of laboratory techniques and procedures, including experience with laboratory equipment such as microscopes, sample preparation tools, and testing machines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyse and interpret data accurately and draw conclusions from results.
- Good communication skills, with the ability to present results and observations in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Good computer skills, with experience using laboratory software and data analysis tools.
- Understanding of metallurgical testing techniques and procedures is desirable.
Desirable
- Experience of operating in a metallurgical lab environment
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, or a related field.
- Background in quality standards and their importance
- Knowledge of company Health and Safety requirements, Risk Assessments, COSHH and SDS
- Experience of working to tight deadlines in a high volume production environment
