Business Need / Purpose of Role:
The successful Materials Engineer / Materials Support / Materials Expert / Materials Administrator / Quality Support / Quality Assistant / Quality Expert / Engineering Support / Supply Chain Support / Project Support / Planning Support / Technical Support / Technical Engineer / Technical Administrator will be required to provide technical Materials knowledge and guidance to support the Quality, Engineering, Supply chain, Project management, and Planning teams. To be the ‘go to’ compliance expert regarding material selection, processes, quality standards, and industry & customer material specifications.
Objectives:
Health & Safety
- Actively promote, enforce, and take responsibility to ensure all work activities are carried out safely and in compliance with company / HSE requirements.
Department
· Writing documents, manuals, metallurgical investigations, and reports to support operational and customer requirements.
· Supporting the Proposals Team with technical support regarding materials and welding by performing a technical review at quote stage.
· Support quality related investigations (e.g. NCR, GRRN), root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
· Checking and signing-off material part numbers.
· Maintaining a communication link with metallurgy departments in both our customer and supplier base to ensure that best practice is maintained.
· Supporting LBB Engineering with technical support regarding material properties, material selection and welding requirements.
· Working with the Engineering team to find and assess alternatives to critical processes.
· Helping to develop the material supply chain to ensure a responsive and predictable flow of materials as well as driving forward both process and operational improvements.
· Setting up new material part numbers and specifications in Visual.
· Performing technical and supplier audits.
· Providing technical and process guidance regarding surface treatments & coatings, such as hard-facing, nitriding, xylan coating and paint etc.
Specifications / Compliance
· Compiling and maintaining a standardised set of material specifications to cover current and future needs of LBB and our customers.
· Performing a technical review of all new orders & customer specifications to ensure LBB compliance / highlighting shortcomings.
· Checking and signing-off material reports and certificates when necessary to support the Goods-Inwards / Inspection team.
· Checking and signing-off supplier MPS’
Other
· Identify improvements to existing processes and policies and work with others to implement improvements where necessary.
· Other appropriate tasks as delegated by the Quality Manager.
· Occasional business travel may be required.
Education and/or Experience required for the successful Materials Engineer / Materials Support / Materials Expert / Materials Administrator / Quality Support / Engineering Support / Supply Chain Support / Project Support / Planning Support / Technical Support / Technical Engineer / Technical Administrator :
· Highly motivated, team player with good organisation skills who can work under pressure.
· Ideally have experience within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
· Experience of planning tools i.e., ERP/MRP and vendor management, other related business management systems, Microsoft Office, Excel.
· Strong negotiation, communication, interpersonal and influencing skills.
· Analytical, numerically astute with strong proven problem-solving abilities.
· A proactive approach to changing workload demands in an operational environment.
· Drive for continuous development and process improvement.
