SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Airdyne Aerospace has an immediate opening for a Materials Engineer with a background in Manufacturing to provide the development of production capabilities.
As the Materials Engineer you will be required to support Airdyne products and airworthiness requirements. This includes evaluating materials and developing processes to manufacture polymers for use in our patented SABIR Scanner Door. These materials and the supporting manufacturing must meet specialized design and performance specifications and may require development of new materials and manufacturing processes. This would include the design and/or testing of tooling equipment and/or planning the manufacturing process. This work is of a technical nature where decisions are made within the limits of general practices and procedure, but where supervision is available to handle unusual situations.
This position will require travel to support company or customer requirements.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Maintain a current and up-to-date knowledge of developments in aircraft polymers to recommend innovations to improve the quality, economy, and effectiveness of company products.
· Identifies, selects, and recommends materials based on weight, strength, heat and cold tolerance, cost, and durability.
· Measures performance of various materials in accordance with specifications.
· Collaborates with appropriate engineering staff to understand the material specifications sought for a particular application or product.
· Observes or participates in product testing process as appropriate.
· When a material fails, gathers data and analyzes the reasons why the material did not meet specifications.
· Reports testing results to material producer; identifies when applicable the reasons the selected material did or did not fulfill desired specifications.
· Collaborates with engineers to create a new material when none of the suggested materials meet specifications.
· Supports the purchase and installation of new equipment associated with assigned project.
· Directs the development and/or improvements of manufacturing processes and equipment.
· Provides technical assistance and training for manufacturing operations.
· Ensure that manufacturing has accurate and detailed information on specifications to produce the part.
· Evaluates manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors.
· Develop manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with equipment vendors.
· Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
· Assures product and process quality by designing testing methods; testing finished product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes.
· Provides manufacturing engineering information by answering questions and requests.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Science, or relevant field, with credentials.
· Min 10 years’ to Max 20 years’ of experience using polycarbonate and acrylic materials as either a materials engineer or a manufacturing engineer in the aerospace industry.
· Appropriate Knowledge of regulatory (FAA and/or military) issues related to aircraft design and analysis and their impact on conformity and compliance is required (i.e., certification, qualification).
· Experience testing, measuring, and validating aerospace components/assemblies to validate conformance to type data.
· Experience in technical report writing and must have excellent communication skills, be fluent in English (spoken and written) and proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Teams.
· Experience in Process Improvement: Knowledge of producibility and process improvement methodologies (e.g., statistical process control (SPC), Hardware Variability Control (HVC), 6-Sigma).
· Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a development team.
· Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to fully understand all requirements.
· Must be able to work effectively in a team environment.
· Shop floor support experience.

· Master’s degree in relevant field
