Job description
We’re on the hunt for a driven and creative Marketing Intern to join us in a newly created role at our HQ in Bristol. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience across various different areas of marketing within a growing FMCG business. This will be a 12 month fixed term contract and would suit someone looking for a placement between the second and final year of their studies.
Who are we?
Once upon a time, there were three brothers...
A rugby player, a ship-broker and a cabinet-maker.
After a heated debate about the perfect pork sausages, the brothers decided to settle the argument by creating their own porky delights.
Fast forward to 2023, we now have a range of pork products in Tesco, Sainsburys, Asda, Waitrose, Ocado, Coop and Gousto, along with a restaurant called Pigsty on Bristol’s Wapping Wharf. We also run mobile catering at events up and down the country including Winter Wonderland, Goodwood, and Glastonbury, just to name a few.
The role
The role of the Marketing Intern will be to take on a variety of marketing tasks to support the marketing team day-to-day with the promotional and brand-building marketing activities for The Jolly Hog, Pigsty Restaurant, and our outdoor events.
This will include getting out to events to lead on activation activity, talking to customers and spreading the word about our higher welfare and great taste award winning products. You therefore must be confident speaking to customers whilst out and about.
You will have your own responsibilities and projects and an opportunity to really take the lead. However, you’ll also be involved in the wider marketing activities, such as helping plan our next above the line campaign, media planning, PR stunts and marketing training activities.
You’ll be naturally passionate about food, recipes and cooking. Food and quality are at the heart of everything we do at The Jolly Hog.
Responsibilities
· Manage our product sampling boxes, coordinating, packing and sending our product to influencers, retailers and customers.
· Events management – we spend our summer season out at events selling our products at food and music festivals. You’ll support the brand manager on planning for these events, and pop along to several of these events to talk to consumers, capture content and make sure we are looking great.
· Consumer relationship management via our CRM inbox – responding to our consumer contacts, whether complaints or thanks, and managing onward communication of that throughout the business.
· Shopper marketing – supporting our retail team on booking marketing activity with our retail partners.
· Keeping our website up to date with our new products and events.
· Community management of our Pigsty social channel – our restaurant here at Wapping Wharf. This includes planning, creating and scheduling content.
· Content creation – supporting our digital and social marketing manager across our social media channels. Capturing content and writing copy for our social channels.
What are we looking for?
· A serious passion for food!
· Strong attention to detail
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: Confident and professional both on the phone and on email, in order to build and maintain relationships with colleagues, suppliers, agencies and customers alike
· The ability to be creative and think outside the box
· Ability to work under pressure, make informed decisions and adhere to deadlines
· You will be highly ambitious and want an exciting career in the world of marketing
Important things to note!
· We are not about being second best. We want someone with that same passion for and commitment to excellence.
· This role requires working out of our Central Bristol HQ. For the first couple of months that’s likely to be 5 days a week, this will then drop to 4 once you have been inducted.
· The role will require some weekend working at events across this summer and next
· We are a small, family run business. We don’t do politics
· This is a rare opportunity to join a rapidly expanding business, with big plans for the future. We currently have listings Tesco, Sainsburys, Asda, Waitrose, Ocado, Coop and Gousto. We are not slowing down there!
· You must be a self-starter. You will have the support of a fantastic HQ team, but as we are such a small team you will need to be comfortable working independently from the get-go.
Perks of working with The Jolly Hog
We think The Jolly Hog is a fantastic place to work. We have fantastic socials, quarterly away days, regular days at events, an annual trip away, weekly team lunches - we make/eat lots of delicious food (which can get competitive amongst the HQ Team), and we generally have an ethos of getting our job done whilst having a jolly good time doing it!
· Competitive salary in line with your experience
· Private medical insurance
· Life Insurance
· Weekly team lunches
· Annual trip away
· Free sausages/bacon!
· Fantastic company socials
· Free (on shift)/discounted (off shift) food at our restaurant
We have some very ambitious plans over the next few years, so you will also need to be someone extremely determined to succeed. There has never been a more exciting time to join The Jolly Hog, and we are looking forward to having this role as an addition to our HQ Team.
If you like the sound of everything above and think you fit the bill, please don’t hesitate in applying with your CV and Cover Letter detailing your experience.
