Role: Email Marketing Volunteer

AFFCAD UK is a small team and we are a friendly and committed organisation supporting charitable activities in Uganda. We are 100% volunteer led so everyone has a day job!

Our vision is a world where young people can grow up free from extreme poverty. In order to achieve this, we seek to create long-term partnerships, engage young people in the UK and generate awareness and sustainable income to tackle the causes of poverty in Kampala’s slum communities. We work with AFFCAD Uganda to deliver needs-based programmes for the community in Bwaise.

About the role:

We are looking for a creative, self-motivated and committed individual who can help us increase awareness of our charity’s work, regularly update our network of followers and donors and raise more online donations.

As our charity grows we hope to increase awareness of the needs of the community in Bwaise (one of Uganda’s largest slum areas) and of our work to help end extreme poverty for vulnerable young people.

This role is a vital part of our work at AFFCAD UK and the engagement, activity and online donations you generate will contribute to the success of our projects in Uganda and the growth of our charity.

What the role involves:

● lead the Email Strategy

● Grow our online engagement and donations

● produce content for email campaigns and Affcad website

● Work with our UK and UG teams to generate original content (like GIFs, videos, stories, posts)

● help raise our profile online

● Produce simple reports on email activity & results for Board meetings

● Design and launch campaigns specific to needs/projects e.g. Covid response, Christmas campaign

Your experience:

● at least 2-3 years in a email / marketing role

● A flair for writing great content

● Very organised

● Email campaigns / newsletters (preferred not essential)

● experience of Mail chimp preferred or another email tool

● Bags of initiative & ideas

● Energised working as part of a small team

● A commitment to our cause & work

● An understanding of digital marketing (but not essential)

● Fundraising experience preferred (but not essential)

Commitments/time:

2-3 hours/week - in a busy week. In a quiet week, this might be just 1 hour.

We also ask all volunteers to attend a 1x hour monthly team meeting (held virtually)

We also have a monthly lunchtime meeting for 1 hour with Uganda (optional)

A bit about us:

AFFCAD UK is a grassroots charity supporting projects focused on youth empowerment, education, health in Bwaise, Uganda. We work in partnership with AFFCAD Uganda to identify needs and deliver relevant programmes in the local community. We are run by a team of part-time volunteers with a full-time love for what we do.

We’re a great bunch of people to work alongside; everyone has great enthusiasm for our work and programmes and together we pull off ambitious projects like rebuilding Excel Primary School. You’ll be asked to contribute ideas from the get-go and will see how the work you’re doing feeds into our work in Uganda.
