Marketing Communications Assistant - Year in Industry
Day to day you will make a difference by using marketing communications to increase brand awareness and generate sales leads. No two days are the same – we never stand still and are always looking for new ideas to support the sales of air compressors, nitrogen & oxygen generators, process cooling solutions, parts & service through attractive on and offline communications tactics. We have an opportunity for an ‘all-rounder’ Marketing Communications Assistant in a Year in Industry placement who is ready to support a busy marketing & communications team. The role includes coordinating exhibition stands and PR content for the Atlas Copco brand of compressors, department administration, as well as implementing communications tactics for the process cooling business line and a smaller subsidiary of our business, both of which operate under other brands. Supporting the Marketing & Communications team and working towards business line objectives, the job involves looking after two websites, and promoting our products and services through various online and offline channels to customers and prospects primarily in the manufacturing sector. The placement will provide experience of a real marketing & communications job. Training, guidance and support will be provided.
Day to day you will make a difference by…
Assist the communications manager to organise Atlas Copco Compressors’ presence at exhibitions, events and regional seminars. The goal is to showcase our products and services in the most attractive way. More specifically:
- Involvement in the planning process
- working with exhibition contractors & design studio on the stand design
- developing the theme, messaging and displays along with product marketing, and sales and business line objectives
- briefing stand crew on the show’s objectives and everyone’s responsibilities at the stand
- sourcing giveaways, interactive displays and literature
- coordinating the ordering of products and shipments
- pre-show promotion of our participation through various channels to increase visitor numbers
- follow-up after the show and reporting back to the marketing & communications manager
- being present at the stand build up and break down, alongside the stand contractor, to supervise the build and deal with any issues as they arise
- attend the exhibitions to assist the sales team on the stand
- ensure that leads are captured effectively at the show and passed to sales promptly through the CRM system
- Booking the space for future trade shows
- In a year we have between one and six exhibitions and conferences, across various industry sectors
- Following the PR content plan which is set by the Marketing & Communications Manager and the Business Line Managers, you will attend monthly PR meetings with the Marketing & Communications Manager and the PR agency. You will assist with the day-to-day coordination of the company’s PR content, e.g. seeking approvals, chasing replies about updates, arranging and overseeing photo shoots, booking meetings with our spokespeople and the PR agency, turning case studies into pdfs and publishing them in Showpad and the Teams Blog for our sales team to use, sending rewards to sales engineers for case studies
- Raise purchase orders for the Marketing & Communications team. Liaise with purchasing and accounts to set up new suppliers for the Marketing & Communications team. Will be trained on SAP SRM.
- Presenting the marketing induction to new starters, ensuring they know what the Marketing team does, where to find company information and explaining communications processes. You will also eventually offer guidance to our sales team, distributors and new starters, as needed, on how to update their LinkedIn profiles and share posts.
- Along with HR, create an internal digital newsletter to introduce the new starters.
- Order giveaways, distribute them and keep the marketing cupboard tidy.
- Coordinate the printing of locally-designed literature and banners through a supplier.
- Make updates to the internal communications portal as well as to trade association and member portals, such as Made in the Midlands, ABF, etc.

Responsible for executing the Cooper Freer marketing communications and internal communications activities and the Process Cooling Solutions business line’s marketing communications activities. This includes working with the marketing & communications manager, business line manager and/or integration manager and other subject matter experts to create relevant content in order to:
- Create a social media calendar and make regular posts, aligned to both of these businesses’ missions and messages
- Be the primary administrator of the content management system for the Cooper Freer and Isocool websites. Create web content, publish new pages and improve existing content, optimise the content and for SEO so that the websites are found in organic search above their competition. It is possible that the websites will be moved into the Atlas Copco platform during the course of the internship and this role will support that transition.
- Ensure good and consistent branding of Cooper Freer and the Process Cooling Solutions (PCS) business line across all channels, including employees, vans, buildings, stationary, digital media, etc. and assist with the brand transition into Atlas Copco when the time is right.
- Implement marketing campaigns and produce marketing collateral, such as email campaigns, adverts, roll-up banners, and presentations, for Cooper Freer and the PCS business line
- Assist the Marketing & Communications team as needed with other communications activities and projects, which might include producing brochures, video coordination, supplying advertising artwork, creating posters, company presentations, etc.
- Keep a handover document up to date to pass on knowledge to the next student.
The person we are looking for is….
Undertaking an undergraduate degree.- Have at least an intermediate level skillset of working with a number of computing applications essentially Microsoft Excel but also a good knowledge on the other Microsoft Office applications. Any other system history is desirable but not essential.
- Have good communication skills through various methods including verbally and written as well as strong presentation skills as potential meetings with members of the management team will occur.
- Able to understand and work with a large number of different processes and be able to identify possible improvements.
- Be able to work well and effectively in a team as this role will involve working alongside colleagues in the wider organisation
