Job description
The role
We’re looking for two strategic, driven and dynamic Marketing Managers to join our Faculty Marketing Team, one role based in the School of Economics and the other within the School of Sociology, Politics and International Studies.
Please indicate in your cover letter if you are interested in the Economics or Sociology, Politics and International Studies (SPAIS) position, or both.
You’ll be part of a wider team of 60 marketing professionals who work closely with recruitment and admissions, as well as digital, media and communications teams to support the vision and strategy of the University of Bristol.
In both roles, you’ll play a vital role in developing and delivering innovative marketing strategies, localised to the needs of your respective school.
Established in 2019, the School of Economics marketing team boasts a strong foundation, with well-defined marketing channels, established messaging, and a highly effective and collaborative team. As the Marketing Manager within the School of Economics, you will build upon this solid foundation, leveraging your expertise to further enhance our marketing efforts and drive success. It will be essential to have exceptional leadership, critical thinking and communication skills.
In the School of Sociology, Politics and International Studies, we are seeking a dynamic and proactive Marketing Manager to join our prestigious school, take charge of developing the marketing strategy and lead all marketing-related activities. As the School’s marketing is in its infancy, this role presents a unique opportunity for an ambitious individual to shape and drive our marketing efforts from the ground up. With no existing marketing resources within the School, the successful candidate will need to be a hands-on professional, willing to roll up their sleeves and work collaboratively with colleagues from across the wider marketing community.
What will you be doing?
- Both: Managing multiple internal clients. Heading up the team which is the ‘face’ of marketing within the school.
- Both: Delivering digital marketing campaigns and ensuring integration with wider digital marketing activity across the Faculty and University.
- Both: Managing the content gathering, development, and multichannel distribution to a range of target audiences.
- Both: Working across teams to identify and support the development of impactful research stories. Ensuring those stories are distributed in a way that supports the school’s reputation.
- Both: Managing audience insight, conducting platform reviews and having full oversight of reporting, monitoring and evaluation of channels.
- Both: Demonstrating the value of professional marketing support. Providing ongoing consultancy on marketing to teams within the school.
- Economics: Assess existing and recommend new, innovative marketing tactics to meet the marketing needs of the School.
- Economics: Provide leadership and guidance to a team of three marketing professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment to achieve marketing objectives.
- Sociology, Politics and International Studies: Define a comprehensive marketing strategy, including clear goals, target audience, key messages, and tactics to promote the School’s education (course/programmes) and research effectively.
- Sociology, Politics and International Studies: Identify, develop and execute channel and content strategies with effective prioritisation.
You should apply if
- Are a natural influencer and networker and a determined but sensitive relationship manager who can achieve consensus from multiple stakeholders and demands.
- Will have the confidence to work and lead the team with autonomy, whilst seeking support when needed. You’ll look for join-up and efficiency across teams while keeping your own objectives in focus.
- Are an expert at developing and managing content across all marketing channels to promote our courses, programmes and research. You will also have a good understanding of paid media and digital marketing channels and how these can be used to target audiences and generate leads.
- Are process-orientated with good record keeping skills and enjoy building and maintaining good systems and ways of working.
- Enjoy getting the best out of third-party suppliers to drive results.
- Can bring robust project management to the role, as well as a flair for drawing clear insight from complex information to inform your activity.
- Are used to a fast-paced environment. You’ll be flexible and agile, while committed to ensuring best practice, quality and clear processes that enable co-creation and collaboration.
