ABOUT US
Erro Press are an independent publisher driven by the belief that stories can change the world. We publish high-quality fiction and non-fiction books from emerging, unheard voices who have faced barriers to publication. We also provide accessible opportunities for creative learning, and have a growing periodicals list too - which is where this role comes in! Creative careers should be available to everyone, both as authors and
In the same way that we want our books to celebrate underrepresented voices, we also see our in-house team as a way to make a career in publishing accessible to those who have struggled to find opportunities to break in to the industry due to personal or social barriers.
ABOUT YOU
You love books. You love stories. You love
magazines. You’re drawn to disruptive, changemaker brands and will know what we’re talking about if we mention sustainability, intersectionality and inclusivity as the threads that weave Erro Press together.
You’re interested in working in publishing, understand the internet and have a way with words and design of your own.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Marketing and Publicity Assistant (Periodicals) will spread the word about our magazines list, including promoting existing publications, contributing to launch campaigns for new titles, and sharing news.
Your to do list will usually include:
- Managing social media platforms for our magazines, including scheduling, engagement and asset creation.
- Working with the editors and staff writers to develop our newsletters
- Creating publicity material that our contributors can use
- Building and maintaining relationships with organisations and influencers, alongside the Partnerships Officer
- Bringing ideas to the table in creative sessions and editorial meetings
- The successful candidate will work closely with the Marketing and Publicity Assistant (Books and Events), Production Officer and Partnerships Assistant as well as our external marketing support agencies.
We believe in autonomy at work, so while you’ll be guided month to month by the publishing schedule, it’s more important to us that you develop systems that work for you.
This role is currently part-time at 4 hours per week. The 2023 salary will be £13.03 per hour. Our salaries are always above the National Living Wage, with automatic annual pay rises.
The role is also remote (though you’re welcome to join us when we move into the office if that’s what suits you), flexible, and expandable in the future as our periodicals list grows. There will also be opportunities to undertake training and attend industry events.
HOW TO APPLY
Please submit a CV, covering letter, and a sample pitch that tells us who you are and why you’d love to work with us to hello [at] erropress.com by March 22nd 2023.
Portfolios aren’t necessary but are always appreciated.
The pitch is the only sample exercise we’ll be including in the recruitment process. There’s no rules for what it should be. Some ideas that we’ve had have included a campaign brief, a sample Instagram post, or your covering letter written as a press release! It’s your chance to really show us who you are and what makes you tick creatively.
There’s no set requirements when it comes to experience. Instead, we ask that you have a genuine love for books and a commitment to social, cultural and climate justice.
