We want the world to know about the products and services we can offer and need the assistance of an experienced Marketing and Communications Manager who can bring a flexible and innovative approach to help us achieve our ambitious growth targets.
This is a complex and challenging role requiring an exceptional individual capable of developing and delivering innovative strategies. This is a marketing job like no other – it offers the opportunity to work alongside world-leading scientists and a highly-motivated team of business development managers. Our target audience is global, with existing customers in more than 30 countries, from Falkirk to the Falklands, from Aberdeen to Abu Dhabi. We are active in many different sectors; in agritech we are utilising the latest breeding technologies to develop new varieties of berries and potatoes, understanding the science behind indoor farming through the Advanced Plant Growth Centre and improving the sustainability of the brewing and distilling industries through the International Barley Hub.
We provide specialist analytical services that are ensuring the safety of CBD products, the provenance of fresh products and generate data to support clinical trials to facilitate the approval of new life-saving medicines. We are also at the forefront of the transition to net zero by providing landowners with the knowledge they need to help them sequester more carbon in their soil and peatlands, demonstrating the potential for green hydrogen on-farm, and developing strategies to reduce agricultural waste and chemical inputs.
Main Purpose of the Job
The Marketing and Communications Manager will work closely with the senior commercial staff at James Hutton Ltd, senior scientific staff and the communications team of James Hutton Institute.
James Hutton Ltd has a diverse product and service offering that crosses multiple sectors that each requires a tailored marketing approach. The Marketing and Communications Manager will be required to create and lead a dynamic and effective communication strategy that helps meet company business objectives. This will include, but not limited to, devising and implementing multiple campaigns for lead generation, events development and execution, brand updating and management, digital communications including leading on the revamping of the current website, content creation for and management of all digital communication channels.. The post holder will produce and manage the marketing budget in line with the business objectives of James Hutton Limited.
The Marketing and Communications Manager will also play a key role in developing customer, market and competitor intelligence to help drive strategic direction and product/service development.
Internal communications will be an integral part of the post holder’s accountability for James Hutton Limited.
The postholder will sit on the JHL Senior Management Group and will contribute to improvement and advancement of the business within James Hutton Limited.
Salary on first appointment is normally to the bottom of the scale, although in exceptional circumstances an appointment further up the scale may be considered.
Main Duties of Postholder
Leading and implementation of the communications and marketing strategy for all areas of James Hutton Ltd in line with the company’s financial and reputational objectives.
Managing all marketing aspects for the Strategic Business Units within the company and devising and leading on marketing campaigns with sales targets and measurement tracking
Arrange and minute meetings of the commercial team to share best practice, coordinate activities
Events management of around 12 trade shows per year (national and international) involving all events logistics and attendance
Management of all digital channels including website, social media channels and content creation
Production and management of a budget to meet JHL objectives
Development of messaging and associated content for all marketing collateral, print and online, to support the work of the team of BDMs.
Develop and implement effective lead generation campaigns, measure and report results.
Maintain effective internal communications to ensure that all relevant stakeholders are kept informed of marketing objectives and progress.
Support the senior commercial staff to gather Market Intelligence by understanding our customers’ needs and the market conditions.
Champion the use of social media within JHL and arrange suitable training where appropriate
Contribute to development of company’s marketing budget.
Management of activities in accordance with James Hutton Ltd brand guidelines.

Formal qualification in communications/marketing or equivalent experience

MBA or marketing degree / diploma

Successfully demonstrated communications strategy planning and execution.

Experienced in design and preparation of marketing materials

Digital and Print.

Experienced in developing marketing campaigns which are target driven

In services as well as products.

Evaluated customer research, market intelligence and competitor information to ensure optimal campaign effectiveness

Experienced in managing the planning, writing and delivering of marketing communications.

Experienced in managing digital channels including; website, social media and digital newsletters.
