Multi award-winning drama series about the staff and patients at the Holby City Emergency Department, charting the ups and downs in their personal and professional lives whilst tackling many controversial and taboo issues. Becoming integral member of the AD Department of a continuous drama is relentlessly challenging and diverse. Refining your ingenuity and problem solving to keep the show rolling. The fast paced and varied nature of Casualty nurtures development in all areas of the profession. Being a Medical Drama creates challenging stunts, current medical storylines and long running character development.

Main Responsibilities

The Second Assistant Director will report to the Production Manager on a day-to-day basis.

The postholder will work on their own initiative and also as part of the Assistant Director’s team.

Planning/Organisation

To assist with the shooting schedule in conjunction with the Production Managers and 1st Assistant Directors and to have an overview of the overall production schedule.

To be aware of likely effects of day-to-day filming issues, acting swiftly to respond and then communicate necessary changes to the relevant departments.

To identify and communicate additional support requirements during the planning stages of a block.

To facilitate Post-Production requirements in conjunction with the shooting schedules and artist availability.

Management

To be an inspiring team leader who will motivate and encourage the AD teams.

To understand the various cast issues and personalities and resolve with diplomacy.

To maintain good working practices.

To act as a focal point for everyday issues concerning the production process.

Reporting

To ensure production and distribution to the production office of the call sheets and recording orders.

To provide the Line Producer, Producer, Production Manager and 1st Assistant Director with relevant information, thereby alerting them to any significant issues regarding the cast, crew, schedule and/or potential production problems as they arise.

Departmental

The 2nd Assistant Director will be required to keep themselves informed of other broadcast output, industry issues and be up-to-date with developments in new technologies and ways of working.

To share and communicate, as appropriate, their industry experience with colleagues in the department.

To manage their own and encourage the other AD’s aspirations and expectations in terms of development and training.

Are you the right candidate?

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience as a 2nd Assistant or 3rd Assistant Director or a Stage Manager from theatre
  • A developed knowledge of television or stage production and an understanding of the roles of production personnel
  • Experience working within a production or theatre team, facilitating efficient group dynamics
  • A knowledge of BBC Health and Safety Regulations and BBC Values
  • Proven ability to work with a range of people and to demonstrate effective production skills
  • The ability to meet deadlines whilst working across a range of tasks at different stages of completion
  • The ability to adapt to changing circumstances, planning quickly and efficiently
  • Is computer literate with a working knowledge of Movie Magic Scheduling and Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge and passion for Continuing Dramas, especially with Casualty
