Job Title: Marketing and Communications Freelancer
Hours: 14 hours per week, including occasional evenings and weekends
Length: 6 months initially, with view to extend
Location: Flexible, with min. 2 fixed days per month worked on-site
Salary: £17-20 per hour, depending on experience (equivalent £30.9k-£36.4k per annum)
About the Organisation:
Based in London’s West End, Fitzrovia Community Centre (FCC) is a community hub which brings together local residents, businesses, public services, and community organisations to share skills, talents, and ideas. We provide high-quality, fully-accessible facilities on two floors, including a courtyard garden and a commercial- standard kitchen. Our garden is an oasis of calm in an area which suffers high traffic, pollution, and a lack of green space.
We aim to improve the quality of life of those who live, work, and study in Fitzrovia and surrounding areas.
We provide a range of health, educational, cultural, recreational, and social opportunities across many different audiences which strengthen social links and break down barriers within and between communities.
We support all members of the Fitzrovia community, prioritising those with the greatest need, for example low-income families and seniors / pensioners.
About the Role
We are looking for a talented and experienced freelance marketing and communications professional to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a marketing all-rounder with a strong understanding of marketing strategies which incorporate all elements of the marketing mix in order to reach different audiences. As well as developing marketing strategies to improve awareness of the centre, the role is required to develop and implement targeted communication and marketing strategies to reach all the different audiences. The individual will help FCC achieve its mission by raising its profile, reaching new audiences within the local community and engaging supporters. The freelance will take responsibility for all digital and printed external communications, including managing social media channels, implementing the emarketing plan, writing copy, creating content, developing promotional materials, liaising with local press channels and third party partner websites.
Responsibilities:
- Understand the different target audiences, their needs and communication requirements.
- Develop and implement marketing and communications plans for our programmes and services
- Ensure consistency of communications in line with FCC’s brand and values
- Support the Centre Director and Marketing & Communications Trustee to write a Marketing
Strategy
- Manage FCC’s website, social media accounts and online profiles
- Write and edit marketing and communications materials
- Create and manage FCC’s monthly newsletter and email campaigns
- Develop strong working relationships with local press and local / London-based third-party partners
- Track and analyse marketing and communications KPIs
- Promote FCC’s paid-for services to generate income
- Coordinate and manage other freelance workers where necessary, e.g. designers, photographers
Person Specification:
Degree in marketing, communications, or related field Desirable
Min. 3 years’ experience in marketing and communications Essential
Results-driven with proven track record of delivering marketing plans Essential
Demonstrable ability to put together marketing and communications plans for Essential different audiences
Experience of working in the voluntary and community sector (VCS) Desirable
Demonstrable impact in social media marketing and emarketing Essential
Ability to update websites – adding content, creating new content Essential
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate with multiple Essential audiences in a variety formats, including print, digital, and face-to-face
Excellent time management and organisational skills Essential
Ability to work independently and as part of a team Essential
Knowledge of Fitzrovia, Westminster and/or Camden Desirable
Awareness of social issues affecting inner city areas Desirable
