About the Role
Base Location: Flexible UK & Ireland | We're proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. We will, however need your base 'home' location to be one of our SSE offices or depots around the UK and Ireland.
Salary: £37,600 - £56,400 dependant on experience + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

SSE Enterprise are recruiting for the exciting new position of Market Analyst within the Digital Services function. This role is one of several that will help support our exciting growth trajectory as we aim to oversee 4GW of flexibility assets, like batteries, in the next 5 years. Reporting to the ‘Sector Director’ you will be responsible for being the analytical “eyes and ears” of all facets of ESO and DSO markets, to ensure all value opportunities are captured, threats avoided, competitor strategies understood and data turned into information that strengthens our decision making.
You will act as the advisor to the Digital Services team by analysing market data to identify emerging trends, monitoring competitor behaviour, follow market development and bring to life opportunities that can be captured. The ideal candidate would have a deep knowledge of the Energy system, the markets that are available, the regulation that guides us and the energy landscape around us. The right candidate will need to be inquisitive by nature, able to turn data into clear information, analytical at heart and have a passion for making a real difference.
You will work in a dynamic, intellectually stimulating, and demanding yet supportive environment and will enjoy autonomy and opportunities to substantially influence major decisions in the business whilst working with cutting edge technology and innovation.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Producing research into relevant electricity markets, providing concise analysis, trend modelling, price outlooks, and other relevant forecasts needed to assess opportunities that support SSE Enterprise’ ambitions.
- Collecting and managing data on target markets, as well as interpreting proposed reforms, changes or developments.
- Feedback into near terms Optimisation decision making but also longer term fundamental modelling, working with appropriate market and commercial teams.
- Communicating insights through a combination of discussions, reports, and presentations
- Provide ‘Competitor strategy’ deep-dive comparisons to our own optimisation approaches
What do I need?
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
- Educated to degree level in a relevant subject (economics, scientific, engineering or other numerate discipline).
- Have a broad knowledge of the energy sector, including current Market Trends, as well as experience in forecasting, energy consulting, market modelling or related experience is highly valued.
- Demonstrate good business acumen and be able to focus on the commercial implications of insights obtained through research.
- Data-handling skills; the role involves managing large volumes of data for analysis; strong Excel skills are desirable, experience in specialist tools appreciated (VBA, Access, Python, Power Bi, etc.).
- Research techniques & skills; experience producing analysis/modelling for the power sector or comparable market is desirable.
