We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Marine Officer to join Associated British Port’s marine operation in East Anglia.Reporting to the Divisional Harbour Master this is a key role in operating and supporting ABP’s Safety Management Systems in Ipswich, Lowestoft and Kings Lynn
PURPOSE
Support the Divisional Harbour Master to meet the requirements of the Statutory Harbour Authorities and Competent Harbour Authority for the ABP ports in East Anglia.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
As Marine Officer for East Anglia, your accountabilities will include, but not limited to:
- Appraise the Divisional Harbour Master of the status of the Marine services in East Anglia.
- Inspect harbour craft, port equipment and third-party equipment and service providers to meet appropriate legislation.
- Monitor compliance of the ports with the appropriate legislation and guidance. This will include training and certification of the marine team.
- Assist and advise the Divisional/Deputy Harbour Master on issues surrounding conservancy.
- Be a member of the Emergency Response Team for the East Anglian Ports.
- Be the marine representative in King’s Lynn, this role will require time to be spend in King’s Lynn on a weekly basis and engage with local stakeholders. commitment to be in King’s Lynn on a regular basis.
- Emergency cover for Port Control Ipswich
- Be part of the duty call out Rota for the East Anglia Ports.
- Assist with any task given by the Divisional Harbour Master
SKILLS, EXPERIENCES, QUALIFICATIONS, AND COMPETENCIES
Essential
- Min Officer of the Watch certificated or a completed Marine Operations Apprenticeship.
- In depth knowledge of the Port Marine Safety Code
- Willing to carry out maintenance tasks in all weather conditions
- Willing to be part of an on-call duty rota
- A self-starter and able to work independently as well as part of a small team.
- Full and clean driver’s license
- Good computer literacy, including SharePoint
Ideal
- Diploma for Harbour Master.
- MCA 4P oil pollution training.
- Seagoing experience or experience within the port industry
- Experience with managing a small team and ability to motivate and inspire
- Knowledge of dredging licences, surveys and reporting.
