Marcus by Goldman Sachs (UK)

The firm’s direct-to-consumer business, Marcus by Goldman Sachs, combines the entrepreneurial spirit of a start-up with more than 150 years of experience. Today, we help over 800k customers with their savings goals, leveraging innovative design, data, engineering to provide customers with products that are grounded in value, transparency, and simplicity.

Job Summary

Marcus by Goldman Sachs is looking to strengthen our UX Design capability. We have an exciting opportunity for the right person to come in and enhance the way our Design team works and to provide best practice guidance to ensure we are designing the right solutions in the best way possible. Our customer journeys predominantly take place over web, mobile and agent systems – but all touch points are important and we’d like someone to lead the thinking around consistency, usability and customer delight.

In this role you will be responsible for partnering with key teams across the business including Operations, Engineering, Product Owners, Marketing and Legal & Compliance (to name a few) to explore the many different approaches to solve end-user problems. You’ll manage a small team of expert Designers who are responsible for all customer and agent interactions across our business. They also write content to support these user journeys.

We see this role as a player-coach; someone who can set direction, bring UX expertise, coach others on the best use of design standards/systems AND who can deliver great designs themselves as well.

As well as being an expert in UX customer-centric Design and coaching others, we’d also like you to help us to review, implement and improve the processes which support our design in-take and delivery. We want to test our designs before they hit our customers so that we are optimising the way in which we work, so this is an important part of the role too.

Responsibilities

  • Enhance and continually improve the quality of our Content and Design output
  • Bring expert UX knowledge to our business
  • Coach and mentor other team members on best practice in UX Content writing and Design
  • Establish and manage an efficient process to enable Design within our change process
  • Champion opportunities to test - and build this timing into our planning
  • Work with our US Marcus colleagues, and other key personnel across our division to influence and improve UX standards
  • Bring innovative thinking to the way we work and the way customers and agents interact with our products
  • Manage other UK Design colleagues to ensure they achieve their full potential
  • Collaborate with our Research and Analytics teams to identify improvements using a data-driven approach. Use these findings to drive design improvements

Skills

  • A seasoned UX Design practitioner. Extensive experience in using UX design best practices to design solutions, and a deep understanding of mobile-first and responsive design.
  • A manager who can coach and guide others (who may be in remote locations) to achieve their full potential
  • Design and deliver wireframes, user stories, user journeys, and mock-ups optimized for a wide range of devices and interfaces
  • Experience of working in a regulated environment and having to balance operational, regulatory and efficiency demands whilst still shipping products with outstanding design features. Ideally within retail banking.
  • Passionate about resolving user pain points through great design
  • Knowledge of Design tooling such as Figma and Adobe suite products, Basic HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript skills are a plus.
  • Web and mobile design experience both essential
  • Experience/understanding with UX writing - preferred, but not essential
  • Agent systems design and usability experience
  • Great experience of thinking critically about Design processes and influencing how we work with business stakeholders, Product Owners and Engineers
  • Clear understanding of the importance of user-centred design and design thinking
  • Strong communication skills to discuss design processes, ideas, and solutions clearly and effectively to stakeholders
  • Excellent time management skills to align to deadlines and work multiple projects at once
  • Identify design problems and devise solutions
  • Ability to prioritise based on business needs
  • Advanced prototyping skills / high fidelity
  • A solid grasp of user-centred design (UCD), planning and conducting user research, user testing, A/B testing, usability, and accessibility concerns.
