Job description
Job title: Manufacturing Trainee
Salary: £24,931 - £26,793
Location:Hanslope Park (near Milton Keynes)
Hours: Full-time, part-time (minimum of 28 hours per week) and flexible/compressed working patterns available
We are HMGCC, the engineering specialists at the heart of the UK’s national security. We work with the intelligence agencies, UK Government, academia, private sector partners and international allies to bring engineering ingenuity to the national security mission, creating tools and technologies that drive us ahead and help to protect the nation.
Your role
As a Manufacturing Trainee, you’ll join one of five teams in our Advanced Manufacturing Facility and learn first-hand how the products we create help to keep the UK safe. Whether it’s Printed Circuit Manufacturing, Additive Manufacturing, Mechanical Manufacturing, Electronics Manufacturing or Manufacturing Logistics, you’ll work alongside experienced colleagues, develop new, practical skills and, most importantly, discover a future for yourself in an engineering environment.
You’ll be given all the training, support and guidance you need to kick-start your career. With a broad range of projects across the teams, you could be learning how to operate manufacturing equipment, ensuring we operate within processes and procedures, or helping to create products to cost, quality and time criteria. You’ll help things run smoothly. And, if you make mistakes, you’ll learn from them. This isn’t an apprenticeship; you’ll be developing your skills and knowledge on-the-job. In doing so, you’ll enjoy real job satisfaction as you shape a career that’s right for you.
About You
Are you inquisitive? Reliable? A team player? Can you bring a positive attitude and a can-do approach to a range of tasks? That’s exactly what you’ll need to demonstrate, whichever team you’re in. You don’t need any experience in manufacturing to join. You don’t even need any particular grades or qualifications. So, if you’re not good at exams, that’s not a problem. You’ll be practical, hands-on, and passionate about doing better every day. And, you’ll be a great collaborator. You’ll be learning from others and sharing your own ideas as you work as part of a friendly, supportive, and inclusive team.
Enthusiastic and open-minded, you’ll be willing to try new things and get involved. At HMGCC, we’re powered by different perspectives and a real mix of talents. If you can demonstrate a desire to learn and the drive to make a difference, you’ve already got what we’re looking for – we’ll teach you the rest.
What we offer
We invest in our people through training and support throughout their careers. You’ll have access to extensive career development opportunities, ranging from half-day internal training to distant learning degrees. This is all on offer to help you realise and reach your potential. We also recognise the importance of a great work-life balance. Contracted hours are exactly that, so we’ll pay you for any overtime or give you time off in lieu if things take longer than expected. And, you’ll get 25 days’ annual leave (rising to 30 after 5 years), free parking, and access to our on-site nursery (subject to availability) and free, 24-hour gym.
Freedom, progress and openness are values that underpin our way of life. When you join us, you’ll discover a wide range of sports and social societies to help you meet new people: including affinity groups supporting neurodiverse, disabled, LGBTQ+ and ethnic minority colleagues. We’re proud to have an inclusive culture where everyone’s welcome, so you’ll only ever need to be yourself.
