Develop your career

Over two years, this programme will challenge and support you to grow professionally and personally. You’ll have three varied and stretching rotations working on live projects alongside experts in industry. Your rotations will provide you with the opportunity to experience working on our manufacturing sites as well as our Head Office settings, working with different types of technology. In all the roles you’ll have, you’ll work with senior leaders and drive the success of our manufacturing operations.

Our Manufacturing Site Technology Graduate Programme is designed to accelerate the development of graduates, some of whom potentially already have some experience of being part of a manufacturing site environment and wish to develop their Technology career in this kind of environment. If you’ve already developed substantial experience working in a professional role in your sector, while you would be able to apply for this programme, you may also want to look at direct entry roles in our businesses, as these may be the best way to build on your existing skills and expertise and develop a career at GSK.


Tech within GSK

Tech at GSK is undergoing a period of change and transformation: GSK has the ambition to become a leader within the pharmaceutical industry in the application of digital technologies to drive a step change in performance and competitive advantage. As an organization, GSK is looking to create maximum strategic and operational value from our six key tech capabilities: Software Engineering, Digital, Cyber Security, Data Science, Cloud Infrastructure, and Product Management. Within these strategic areas, we see this work touching upon established and emergent technologies, including the transition to digitized data (vs. paper-based), Data Science and Analytics, next-generation/cloud computing, sensors and the internet-of-things, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.

Programme plan

The programme is based on three different rotations: two of which take place on manufacturing plant and one at GSK's headquarters:

  • The plants are located in Montrose and Worthing
  • GSK's head office is located in London

This full-time, permanent Manufacturing Site Technology Graduate Programme role is manufacturing site-based and will lead to a permanent role on the Montrose manufacturing site following the programme. It will provide technical analysis and development of solutions in support of the Manufacturing processes and will manage the deployment, testing, validation, performance, operations and continuous support and improvement of all Technical, Engineering and Manufacturing applications within each Manufacturing Excellence and Quality and Lab Product team.

This role requires a balance of business process understanding and technical breadth and an ability to operate in a flexible and agile way to drive efficiency and improvements to the Manufacturing, Technical, Engineering and Quality and Lab Products.

The role involves working with geographies, user bases and a large mix of technology and business process understanding.

Key responsibilities

  • Partner with Product Owners and Product Managers to help to develop, test, deploy & maintain technology and/or solutions to enable business value for GSK, operating within an Agile Product Model.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operational activities within an Agile Product model, which includes but is not limited to:
    • Business process to system mapping and user requirements capture
    • Application and technology configuration & implementation e.g. automation tools
    • Refining the user experience to ensure the most efficient experience for the user
    • Application integration selection/design & implementation
    • IT service to support end-to-end business processes
    • Business Unit systems support for multiple internal and external vendor stakeholders. Operates as a subject matter expert in a shared service operating model and provides systems support as needed.
    • Ensure data passes accurately from platform to platform.
    • Manage access, training, system enhancements, and support of related systems and applications.
    • Ensure the integrity and consistency of systems and approval process through metrics reporting, dashboards and systems metadata.
    • Design, develop and implement methodologies and protocols that ensure accuracy of data sources and confirm validity of reports
  • Development, maintenance and management of products and solutions, including the identification of gaps, risks and mitigation approaches
  • Engage with internal functions and external bodies (companies, standards bodies and agencies) to understand the wider ecosystem that impacts the Product area.
  • Collaborate with Portfolio & Product to ensure solutions align agreed product roadmap & feature requirements
  • Engage with key stakeholders and end users to ensure best possible User Experience (UX) and business outcomes are achieved, escalating issues as appropriate
  • Provide technical leadership in support of service delivery and lifecycle management, to optimise the Product portfolio and ensure that systems continue to operate and evolve in line with the Product Roadmap, wider Tech environment and key standards
  • Track exceptions to standards and drive their remediation

Preferred Experience

  • You have experience of working within a matrixed organisation with multiple stakeholders to manage
  • You have been part of teams that have developed successful software products from concept to adoption
  • You have some understanding of agile product management techniques including customer development, discovery & primary research, lean start-up method and industrialisation/scaling-up
  • Experience working in a GxP environment
  • You possess strong technical knowledge to understand your team’s software products or solutions
  • You have been part of teams that have developed System Requirement to Proof of Concept
