Key responsibilities for the Manufacturing Project Manager:
To manage multiple manufacturing projects whilst operating as the key interface between the manufacturing teams and the rest of the Business ensuring plans are available and resources are in place to successfully deliver and support the product portfolio.
The role will require rigorous planning and execution to ensure on time delivery against demand whilst maintaining or reducing Unit Production Cost without compromising quality of the deliverable products.
The right candidate will champion and facilitate a culture of continuous improvements focusing on improving lead times, increasing throughput and cost reduction activities. The ability to to engage and create collaborative relationships across multiple functions including Engineering, Manufacturing, Procurement, and Finance as well as with business unit leaders is critical.
Responsibilities Include:
- Management of agreed manufacturing budgets and risk provisions through all phases of the project lifecycle
- Ownership of Manufacturing input to Bid activities for new business opportunities
- Solid knowledge of and adherence to Life Cycle Management processes
- Planning and scheduling of resources required to successfully deliver and support products
- Leadership of continuous improvement activities in support of business objectives
- Understanding the mechanics and factors affecting manufacturing supply and demand
- Monitoring and review of production trends to ensure early warning systems are in place to de-risk delivery and quality
- Effective management of available resources to achieve desired outcomes
- Regular review of expenditure on labour and material to ensure most efficient and appropriate usage of both in line with sales forecasts & project performance reviews
- Championing and facilitation of a culture of Continuous Improvement
- Optimisation of WIP and stockholdings to ensure maximum cash flow whilst retaining desired finished products in line with business requirements and strategies
- Driving Inventory optimisation throughout the life cycle in accordance with lean manufacturing principles, Line of Business requirements and Site targets
- Empowering teams to find, analyse and solve production and supply chain problems with corrective actions
- Managing capacity plans in in line with business area expectations
- Working closely with the IPTs, plus Commercial & Finance functions for optimal demand & supply management
- Preparation and presentation of business reports as required by IPT and/or Business area
- Working constructively with a wide array of functions and fostering strong, productive relationships
- Interfacing and relationship management with internal and external customers and stakeholders
Education and Experience:
- Previous experience of project, operational and budget management is preferred
- Prior experience in an defence and aerospace is desirable
- Experience of delivering operational improvements across all areas
- APM, Prince2 or equivalent is desirable
- SAP
- Knowledge and experience of MRP systems
Skills and attributes:

- In depth knowledge and understanding of manufacturing theory and practice
- Good oral presentation and written communication skills
