This role of Assistant Cutter Operator is based at Bathford Paper Mill, where paper has been made for over 200 years. This role is based in the Cutter House where the paper is finished to the customers specifications. In this role, you will gain a variety of task-based skills within the Cutter House and on various machinery.

Job Purpose:
The operators work to specific measurements and tolerances to cut the paper into the correct sizes for the customers’ requirements whilst still maintaining the correct locations for all the security features. The operators carry out quality and dimensional checking on finished paper to ensure that the quality requirements for the tasks have been met.
The paper is cut using our Strachan Henshaw Machine (SHM) which can cut over 200 sheets a minute whilst maintaining quality assurance. The machine uses multiple operating systems to maintain the correct measurements and quality of the paper. There are different functions in using this machine, however, most paper can be transferred to other machinery, in which you will.
The starting salary is £28,402.16 whilst the initial training takes place. This then rises to £33,025.77 once competent in one role and upon learning other machinery.
After the paper is cut on our machinery, it is then sent into the Salle packing department. The Salle is responsible for counting and packing the reams of paper, ready to be shipped out to our customers.”
Key Responsibilities:
- · Learn to run the SHM machine unsupervised.
- · Understand use of making dockets.
- · Understand the relevence of quoted quality parameters.
- · Upload new paper webs into the cutting station.
- · Take samples.
- · Transport the finished sheets that are fault free.
- · Check finished sheets against templates
- · Demonstarte corrective actions required to meet specifications.
- · Measure the sheet dimensions.
- · Use our systems for data input.
- · Visually inspect sheets.
- · Retain stacking quality of sheets.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
- Good analytical skills
- Self-motivated and work with minimum supervision
- Show initiative and be proactive
- Willingness to learn
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Communicate effectively both within the Department and with other Departments especially in handovers
- Good organisational skills to schedule workload to meet production schedules and Sales deadlines
- An understanding of targets and KPIs
- Good level of precision and attention to detail.
- Computer literate, Microsoft Office (MS Word & Excel) and Department-specific systems.
- Think about continuous improvement for future benefits within the department
