Position Summary
This role involves a deep functional knowledge of engineering and manufacturing processes utilized in large scale fabrication and equipment production. This role under direction of others, supports processes required to sell and fulfill orders for new capital equipment, aftermarket parts, and services. Required duties include evaluation of engineering drawings for best practices and document translation into the company ERP system including creation and modification of part numbers, manufacturing bills of material, and routings. Additionally, the role provides labor and lead-time estimates to upstream and downstream customers, creates and maintains standard work documents for use internal and external to the department, and provides support for continuous improvement projects within the company. Finally, the position serves a key role providing technical assistance to internal and external producers and work centers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but may not be limited to the following:
- Perform time studies and improve the efficiency of manufacturing processes as assigned by supervisory staff.
- Understand and translate engineering designs and orders into bills of material and routings based on available manufacturing processes.
- Provide root cause analysis of production issues and assist with the implementation of corrective actions.
- Maintain bills of material and manufacturing routings with timely revisions.
- Provide support for drawing revision and creation related to parts and shop tooling.
- Perform liaison work with other departments (Purchasing, Production, Engineering, Sales, etc.) to obtain services or pertinent information relative to functional needs.
- Directly support those generating quotes for parts, service, and capital equipment by identifying requirements and providing summaries of costs and lead time under the guidance of others in the engineering department.
- Act as the functional support role for other positions within the Manufacturing Engineering group as well as other manufacturing operations as needed.
- Support strategic company initiatives in areas such as Lean and Design for Manufacturability as requested.
- Solicit and investigate feasibility of productivity improvements from internal production personnel as assigned.

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.
Education
B.S. in Manufacturing Engineering or a related engineering field from a four-year college or technical school in Engineering. 0-2 year(s) related Engineering experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience with an emphasis in Engineering preferred.
Skills/Experience
- A working knowledge of engineering formulas, methodologies, and concepts. Specific prior working knowledge of Statics Analysis a plus.
- Demonstrated PC skills including Microsoft Word and Excel with basic demonstrated knowledge of programming a plus.
- A familiarity with Manufacturing Bill of Materials and Routings with a working knowledge of JD Edwards (or similar MRP system) preferred.
- A familiarity with Work Instructions including the ability to follow, maintain, create new, and train others on when necessary.
- Proven ability to utilize 2D and 3D design tools such as Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD with a familiarity of Design For Manufacturability concepts a plus.
- A familiarity with a diverse range of fabrication methodologies including their benefits and drawbacks. Hands-on fabrication experience preferred and prior work experience in related manufacturing and production fields a plus.
- Should be familiar with and have the ability to read and understand prints related to metal fabrication, machining, welding, and assembly processes.
- Ability to manage a work queue and assigned tasks with a high level of independence.
- Must possess a valid driver's license in state of residence and be insurable under company's motor vehicle insurance policy.
Travel
Less than 10% to include:
- Occasional travel to alternate company and vendor sites may be required for training or oversight.
- Occasional travel may be required to attend trade shows, exhibitions, and other possible functions.
