The Opportunity
At Leonardo, we have a fantastic new opportunity for a Component Manufacturing Engineer (CMS) Manufacturing Engineer.
CMS provide an on-site ‘Fast Track’ manufacturing capability for sheet metal details, metallic machining and assembly work.
This vacancy is for a team leader and expert level role in CMS Manufacturing Engineering.
The scope for this role is:
- Being the technical owner or lead for specific product or processes and parts
- Assisting with the technical support, tooling and documentation to enable production of ‘World Class’ products
- Planning continuous assembly sequences and processes in order to achieve the build standard, product quality, budget hours and delivery schedule as defined by Programme Management.
- Produce work instructions, Bills of Material and technical documentation to support the manufacturing process
- Drive team and improve product-manufacturing process, setting high standards and mentoring others

What you will do
- Leading a small team of manufacturing engineers who will create work instructions to support the manufacture of detail components and assemblies in CMS
- Being responsible for setting group daily tasks, monitoring and reporting team Key Performance Indicators' (KPIs) and distribution of workload
- Reporting project budget, time scales and performance
- Organising team meetings to align goals and objectives
- Creating and approving manufacturing work instructions for mechanical detail parts and assembly structures which include:
- Workshop operational routings
- Electronic work instructions
- Bill of materials
- Processing design changes and repair instructions into current products and assembly process, identifying impact analysis of changes to the business, for the efficient introduction of change
- Answering technical queries raised by CMS shop floor operators and CMS's offload companies and implement solutions
- Being responsible for identification and requesting of tooling to aid manufacturing
- Representing manufacturing engineering in engineering design reviews with being focal point in a liaison capacity between design and production
- Providing estimates of production times to enable accurate capacity plans and cost estimating, summaries and project scopes
- Evaluating teams training and development needs
- Being responsible for the development of others, including formal training, and take a proactive approach in personal development
- Mentoring people within own group, driving standard of expectation on daily basis

What we are looking for
Essential skills
- Educated to at least HNC or equivalent in an engineering discipline/time served apprenticeship or relevant experience
- Good working knowledge of the manufacture of sheet metal detail parts, metallic machining and mechanical assemblies
- Good working knowledge of metallic heat treatments, hardness testing, flaw detection etc.
- Team leader, excellent communicator with influencing skills
- Engineer background from an aerospace or high integrity mechanical manufacturing environment, tools and processes
- Proactive and business driven approach to improvements, customer satisfaction and high quality standards to lead by example
- Advanced of proven analysis & problem solving techniques

Desirable skills
- Familiar with the use of Microsoft package software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project
- Good knowledge of the principles of material requisite planning
- Familiar with the engineering change process and documentation
- Working knowledge of the process and output of the configuration Control board (CCB)
- Working knowledge of CATIA (V4 & V5), ENOVIA, SAP (ECC6) and the modules applicable to the Manufacturing Engineering and quality functions
- Experience in project management
