About our team…
We have a brilliant opportunity for a Manufacturing Development Engineer to join our mission and help support the next phase of our products. We are engaged in developing future generations of robotic solutions for use in our warehouses around the world. Our team works from concept through to production implementation, bringing new ideas to manufacture. Because of the complex nature of the equipment and Ocado’s drive to innovate, the team interacts with a wide range of departments and are involved in areas as broad as design development, reliability engineering and contract manufacture.
How you'll spend your days...
As a Manufacturing Development Engineer you will be responsible for the process and procedures for transitioning products into full manufacture including work instructions, processes times, test procedures and test and assembly fixtures.
Other responsibilities might include;
Ensuring products are optimised for manufacture and assembly
Transitioning prototypes to full manufacture
Collaborating with manufacturers to optimise and document the manufacturing process
Identifying and tracking critical time to quality parameters to ensure process capability
Conducting measurement system analysis on test equipment
Acting as the primary technical point of contact with suppliers
Participating in Patent process
As part of this role, you will be required to visit other UK locations and might be asked to travel abroad.

An engineering/science qualification
Knowledge of design for assembly and manufacturing
Hands on Manufacturing experience
Experience working with a large spectrum of manufacturing processes including plastic moulding, sheet metal, CNC machining, castings
Experience in design for manufacture in the industrial equipment, instrumentation, high volume manufacturing or FMCG industry
Understanding of PFMEA, FAST, Critical Parameters, Six Sigma
Awareness, and experience of applying, analytical tools to aid the manufacturing process
Experience in CTQ parameter management and statistical aspects of process capability including Cp and CpK analysis.
Ability to identify and resolve manufacturing issues and improve yield
Experience coaching team members
Familiarity with successfully introducing new suppliers and building appropriate supplier relationships
Experience producing documentation and reports for a range of stakeholders
Ability to work independently and take initiative

Good investigative and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail
Strong stakeholder management skills
Ability to think logically and methodically
Good interpersonal skills and organisational skills
Knowledge of statistical packages and Microsoft Office systems
