Opportunity
The primary purpose of this role is the manufacture and modification of components using predominantly manual and partial CNC machining processes (turning, milling, drilling etc.) as per drawing and instruction.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Always working safely and with a high degree of housekeeping.
- Reading and interpreting production drawings and instructions and plan the sequence of operations and material required for the job.
- Preparing the materials for the manufacture of the component parts, using the facilities of the Manual Machining Section.
- The setting and operating of the Manual Machining Section mill (CNC and manual), lathe and grinding machines.
- Using the general-purpose machines, such as radial and pillar drills, surface grinder, hand press, etc.
- Use of pillar drills and press equipment to fit and machine wear-point bushes ready for assembly.
- Flexibility across the wider department as required.
- Hand working, as required.
- Using all types of measuring equipment including micrometres, verniers and slip gauges.
- Marking out to close tolerances (+ - 0.001”);
- Highlighting tooling issues. Maintaining and sharpening of existing cutting tools.
Skills/Qualifications/Experience and Personal Attributes include:
- Engineering apprentice qualified or equivalent.
- Experience in the relevant machining processes as listed above.
- Experience in the use of jigs, fixtures, dies & press tools in manufacture.
- Ability to understand assembly processes to suggest solutions/improvements in process and/or design.
- Ability to work to short timescales as reactive requests are made.
- Ability to prioritise work.
