Summary of the position

This position holds a senior executive role with the primary responsibility of leading and delivering on the business plan approved by the Board. The MD is tasked with overseeing all aspects of the business to ensure its achievement, profitability and overall financial performance. They are responsible for aligning Maple & Co.'s vision and strategy to achieve the specified objectives and milestones.

Responsibilities:

Commercial, Finance & Legal:

  • Underwriting commercial opportunities and delivering the plan to the Board
  • Accountable for executing annual budgets
  • Developing and implementing quarterly plans to achieve company objectives and growth targets
  • Prepare and present quarterly reports working closely with the accountants
  • Develop and manage daily, weekly, bi-weekly and monthly KPIs and corrective actions as needed to ensure EBITDA is tracking against budget
  • Responsible for capex budgets
  • Responsible for legal issues related to Licensing and Franchise Agreements, Trademarking and Leases
  • Appointing and managing external solicitors, advisors and accountants
  • Engage and develop relationships with business partners e.g. landlords
  • Oversee all outgoing payments (manual or automatic software payments)
  • Ensuring the business adheres to all legal and regulatory requirements including safety regulations, employment laws, and licensing requirements

Leadership, Operations & Strategy:

  • Setting the overall vision, mission and strategic direction
  • Hiring, leading and supporting the management team by promoting a positive work environment and fostering teamwork
  • Setting clear and measurable KPIs and efficiently managing the team and individual performances
  • Develop the policies for the company and implement them for the betterment of the employees and the company through regular monitoring - sharing with the team what “success” means for Maple
  • Support the smooth functioning of all departments
  • Working with the management team to approve project timelines, deliverables and assignments
  • Oversee the implementation of project plans and provide mid-course corrections
  • Handling unforeseen challenges and crises that may arise within the industry, such as natural disasters or public health emergencies
  • Staying up-to-date with the latest hospitality industry trends and innovations is essential to remain competitive and offer unique guest experiences

Brand, Sales & Marketing

  • Accountable for the guest experience - addressing feedback and maintaining a positive reputation for the business including meeting customer review KPIs
  • Reviewing ROI on all marketing spend - approving any spend over £2k or outside of the budget
  • Supporting and guiding the team to ensure sales targets are achieved

HR Related

  • Hiring and writing all direct report job descriptions, compensation packages and bonuses
  • Arranging regular performance reviews for all direct reports (min. 1 / year after probation performance review)
  • Approve any incentive schemes outside of the budget
  • Supporting the operations manager in HR situations, e.g. grievances, complaints etc before it escalates
  • Managing all escalated HR situations and involving advisors / solicitors if required

IT & Contractors:

  • Overseeing tech and software efficiency across the business
  • Ensuring the team is fully trained on all tech solutions used in the business
  • Reviewing, selecting and appointing external contractors for projects e.g. product development, PR, recruiters, etc.
  • Ensuring ‘best value for money’ is achieved by actively reviewing multiple contractors at before appointing one
  • Supporting the management team to ensure contractors are fulfilling the T&Cs

Experience:

  • Scaling small business to mid level - ideally QSR or concession/ contract catering with min. 5 years and £5M turnover
  • Experience with full P&L responsibility
  • Managing a senior management team of 3-5 direct reports
  • Experience in overseeing all aspects of a business, from HR to sales to operations
  • Reporting to Board level members

Education:

  • Bachelor Degree in Business Management, Hospitality Management or equivalent experience

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: £70,000.00-£90,000.00 per year
