Newly created, rewarding opportunity to work for a market leading business who design, manufacture and supply niche computers for use in hazardous areas. Their loyal client base comprises of global businesses who operate within the oil and gas exploration industry. As they continue to go through a period of substantial change and growth, they have recognised the need to enhance the team by recruiting a Managing Director.
Initially reporting to and working closely with the CEO, you take responsibility for driving and improving business performance, and will progress to become the future CEO of the Group within the next 18-24 months. There may also be an opportunity to benefit from an equity share.

Specific Requirement:
As Managing Director, you will lead the Company, providing strategic guidance and direction to a well-established management team to ensure the business meets all their objectives and satisfies the stakeholders. Your remit will include:
- Being the point of contact with Stakeholders, External Accountants and Banks, including provision of monthly business performance information to lenders and monitoring of business performance.
- After a period of product and cultural familiarisation, the role will develop into a more commercial capacity, with significant involvement in the sales process and day to day operations.
- Contributing to the preparation of business plans, including sales forecasts, the creation of cash flow forecasts and annual budgets.
- Preparation of monthly and year to date performance reports to the Board, including commentary, analysis and recommendations.
- Responsible for ensuring accuracy and consistency of the accounting systems (using SAP Business One), supported by a number of in-house IT systems.
- Working closely with the sales and R & D teams to drive new product development and oversee diversification of the product mix to move up-market. Specifically, towards AI and Hazardous Area Edge Computing.
- International travel to meet overseas customers.
- Involvement in manufacturing planning, providing input to the procurement, manufacturing and administrative functions.
- Regular liaison with non-finance, e.g. working closely with Sales, Production, Operations, R&D etc.
- Ad-hoc evaluation and analysis to support initiatives and investments in the business.
- Controlling the Marketing mix, including trade shows, web site, social media, PR, E-Mail Marketing and collateral.
- Understanding and analysing the sales prospect forecasts so as to provide guidance to Purchasing and prepare annual budgets.
Skills & Experience required:
- Experience from a Manufacturing, Engineering or Electronics sector will be advantageous, ideally within either an SME or subsidiary of a larger business.
- A strong Financial background, preferably with a formal accountancy qualification (CIMA/ACMA/ACA/ACCA).
- Previous experience of managing budgets, financial reporting and negotiating with Bankers is essential.
- A working knowledge of trading in overseas markets, especially North America will prove highly beneficial.
- Comfortable participating in pre-sales strategic planning and subsequent sales negotiations with senior Board level players in International Blue-Chip companies.
- A working knowledge of SAP Business One will prove advantageous, but by no means essential. You must be highly proficient in Excel.
- Appreciate the challenges and complexities of a cyclical business.
- Able to command authority, credibility and earn respect, working with and leading people at all levels across multiple functions and disciplines.
- A pragmatist with high levels of determination, an ability to operate whilst under pressure, and be comfortable multi-tasking,
- Demonstrate initiative and resourcefulness, and able to drive the business forward during the exciting times ahead.
