The Valuations team within Deloitte Corporate Finance Advisory provides advice on all aspects of valuing businesses and assets. This can range from valuing companies, divisions of companies, intellectual property (for example brands) and other income generating assets in the UK and abroad. The team has a client base of prestigious and high-profile natural resources clients.
Projects arise wherever there is a question of value, but can broadly be grouped as follows:
- M&A and investment analysis
- Tax, financial and regulatory reporting, including fund valuations
- Litigation, expert determination and disputes
- Intellectual property and intangible assets
- Reorganisations, turnarounds and recapitalisations

You will be part of the Natural Resources valuation team with a focus on mining and metals but exposure to the full natural resources sector. Your work will comprise valuations of mineral assets and technical reviews of minerals projects. As a mining and metals focused valuations Manager, you will play an integral part in growing and developing the team, business development activities and in valuing our clients' businesses and assets in the mining and metals industry.
The industries of the broader natural resources team include: oil & gas, metals & mining, chemicals and vessels. The natural resources valuation team performs engagements across all these sub-industries and sits within the wider valuation team covering a multitude of other industries and types of valuations.
We are currently looking for mining and metals Managers in our London office whose responsibilities will include:
- Working with the partners and other senior staff to develop our natural resources and mining & metals valuation practice
- Managing and assisting in delivering multiple advisory valuation engagements to time and to budget for a wide range of mining and metals clients
- Performing reasoned and clearly presented financial, technical and market analysis including experience of reviewing/constructing valuation models to assess value
- Assisting in technical reviews of mining and metal projects, technical due diligence processes, reviews of minerals projects valuations and associated engagements
- Creating and developing quantitative models to assess value and financial performance
- Self-challenging the analysis performed and clearly articulating the rationale for the valuation conclusions reached
- Understanding, performing and taking responsibility for the client acceptance and engagement risk mitigation processes
- Participating in discussions with client senior and executive management
- Gaining a deep understanding of valuation theory and applying this in practice, as supported by relevant qualifications
- Liaising with clients as and when appropriate
- Coaching and developing staff from both a technical and personal development perspective
- Actively pursuing self-learning, on the job training and knowledge from other team members
- Contributing to broader group initiatives
- Building internal networks and developing external networks
- Working effectively in diverse teams within an inclusive team culture where people are recognised for their contribution

Connect to your skills and professional experience
Essential:
- Good level of experience working either (i) a technical role in a mining/ mineral exploration company or (ii) technical role in a mining advisory business or (iii) financial advisory in the mining sector (including private equity, investment banking or financial advisory/services)
- Exceptional analytical, oral and written communication skills with a robust attention for detail
- Knowledge of basic financial and accounting concepts with the ability to analyse and value mineral assets and mining and metals businesses
- Knowledge of the fundamental technical aspects of mining operations, including ability to read and interpret mineral resource statements, mine plans, mineral processing flowsheets and financial models
- Enthusiasm for, and ideally previous exposure to valuations in the mining and metals sector
- Ability to take complex analysis and to present and communicate it in a concise and clear manner
- Show initiative to learn, ask questions and accomplish delegated tasks accurately
- Client focus, with ability to work quickly and establish effective working relationships
- Logical and methodical approach to problem solving
- Project management and organisational skills
- The self-confidence/enthusiasm to be involved in business development activities
- Willingness to travel, as required
Desirable:
- An MSc, MBA or equivalent in a relevant subject (e.g. finance, geology, mining or mineral process engineering)
- Pursuing or recently completed a professional accreditation (e.g. an ACA, MBA, CFA or similar)
- Exposure to or expertise in the ESG aspects of minerals projects
- Other technical quilifications (geology. Mining engineering, process engineering, reservoir engineering)
- Business proficiency in foreign languages (French, Spanish, Portuguese) also advantageous but not critical
