Icomera, a technology company, is looking for a Graduate Mechanical Engineer to join our team within DG8 and contribute to our ambition to deliver top class
connectivity products and solutions to our customers in the transportation market.
DG8 Design & Engineering, a division of Icomera UK Ltd (part of the wider EQUANS organisation), are an established design and engineering group based in Derby; our creative and versatile group of designers and engineers are experienced in delivering design led projects from concept to implementation.
We mainly work for clients within the Rail transport sector and our team have extensive experience of the Rail vehicle market, working at all tiers of the supply chain.
The majority of DG8’s work is UK based, but there have been occasions where we have been requested to support UK companies in overseas markets. This opportunity has allowed us to develop our skills and knowledge base as well as allowing us to work with a variety of rolling stock, operators, and manufacturers.
About the Job:
The Graduate Mechanical Engineer role within DG8 is a role that experiences various elements of the business as part of a journey towards chartered status. Our Graduate Mechanical Engineers work closely with our Project Engineers, Senior Design Engineers, and Design Engineers to create designs that respond to our customers’ demands. From this work the installation, assembly and detailed 2D drawings will be created to aid the manufacturing process.
This role also requires the successful applicant to undertake vehicle surveys and therefore, travel is a part of the role. This can be anywhere within the UK and overseas.
The Graduate Mechanical Engineer will also undertake related activities to ensure that the requirements of the customer and the company are always upheld. This will include tasks such as client design reviews, internal design reviews, design checks of your work and updating drawings (back drafting) and varies as part of the rotation of disciplines.
Key Duties
- Undertake work on a variety of projects to create designs that respond to our customers’ demands. Completing 3D CAD models and the 2D installation, assembly, and detailed drawings as part of the engineering change pack.
- Ensure that the quality systems procedures are followed when undertaking all processes.
- Actively participate in design reviews with customers and internally with project teams.
- Liaise with suppliers to gain information to allow the design to proceed through to completion.
- Communicate with other members of the project team for guidance on the overall production of engineering change packages.
- As and when required, undertake vehicle surveys on-site to gain the information required to start the design process.
- Pro-actively participate in the development and the requirements of the graduate scheme to enable progression towards chartership.
Who You Are:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- An understanding of engineering drawings.
- An understanding of the creation of 3D modelling.
- An understanding of materials and their properties.
- A UK-SPEC (Standard for Professional Engineering Competence) accredited degree in a relevant engineering discipline, preferably Mechanical Engineering.
- Expected grade of 2:2 or better.
- Committed to working towards chartership status with a recognised professional industry body such as the IMechE, IET or IED.
- A UK-SPEC (Standard for Professional Engineering Competence) accredited degree in a relevant engineering discipline, preferably Mechanical Engineering.
- IT literate with sound knowledge of Windows (10 or 11) and Office 365.
- Experience of CAD systems – ideally Siemens Solid Edge or SolidWorks.
- Capacity to communicate effectively and constructively on all levels as part of a team or as an individual, when representing the company.
