School of Modeling, Simulation, and Training: The University of Central Florida’s School of Modeling, Simulation, and Training (SMST) is creating new technologies and solutions to advance human learning and create a boundless future where solving the world’s most challenging problems becomes a reality at the local, regional, national, and international levels. Housed within the School, the Institute for Simulation & Training is a more than 40-year-old, multi-million dollar research institute at UCF. The School and Institute are the hub of the National modeling and simulation ecosystem and serve as the interface for the University’s cross-cutting research initiatives, working as a force multiplier to increase effectiveness, efficiency, and complexity. SMST and UCF are poised to accelerate the speed of innovation and technology advancements with focus areas in Defense, Space, Healthcare, Manufacturing, Education, Smart Cities, Energy, and Sustainability. The Opportunity: The University of Central Florida (UCF) School of Modeling, Simulation, and Training (SMST) is seeking qualified candidates for a Manager, Marketing Communications to develop creative, strategic, informative, and engaging communications plans, content, and campaigns, including but not limited to, email, website, social media, and print content to communicate the School's mission and activities. This position will establish, maintain, and organize talking point resources, draft media alerts and press releases, prepare content and materials for external meetings and speaking engagements (i.e., research briefings, speeches, PowerPoint presentations, talking points, etc.), manage the School's event planning including coordinating tours of SMST labs and facilities, as well as participation at Inter-service/Industry Trainings, the Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC), and other relevant conferences and events. The Manager, Marketing Communications oversees graphic design and print services for School faculty, staff, and students, supervises and mentors Marketing and Communications staff, and contributes to the collection and reporting of School data. Responsibilities: Support appropriate School efforts to increase outreach and visibility among internal and external stakeholders by publicizing the School’s research, news and events, partnerships, outreach, and teaching. Set and maintain the School’s policy and procedures on visual style and graphical design, printed products, website and social media, media releases and engagement, and external outreach with partners. Editorial duties, including reporting and writing brief news and feature items about research findings and awards or other accomplishments, writing profiles, managing and improving websites and materials, directing or producing video content, arranging and art-directing photo shoots, and creating, editing, and managing social media content. Supervise and manage communications staff and relevant consultant relationships. Work with directors and communication support staff to create workflows that efficiently harness faculty and student-generated content and other sources of content. Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to produce high-quality written and visual content that promotes research and news, reaches key audiences to raise visibility, and promotes the School’s accomplishments. Implement a system for tracking marketing and communications metrics for evaluation of effectiveness. Benchmark peer websites, newsletters, and social media. Develop and maintain relationships with news sources (internal, local, and national) with a focus on issues related to the School. Attend or arrange coverage of events to facilitate media coverage and other communication needs. Support the social media outlets for the School. Develop and communicate social media content for the School, as needed. Regularly update the School website, while being certain to follow UCF standards. Develop and create print collateral and digital assets to support the communications and marketing initiatives of the School, including the Institute for Simulation & Training and M&S Graduate Program. Coordinate and plan the School's involvement in local, national, and international workshops and conferences including, displays, collateral development, pre and post-event campaigns, and overall event coordination. Provide support and facilitation for internal events such as School and lab site visits and tours, open houses, seminar series, and other activities. Foster community relations through events and involvement in UCF and community initiatives. Organize networking events with industry, Team Orlando, & simulation community. Produce large & small format print products for School faculty, staff, and students, including building signage. Solicit, collect, compile, and format data for School reports, including maintaining and updating data archive. Develop & balance the Communications and marketing budget. Maintain inventory of equipment & supplies. Other support duties as assigned by the School Director in support of the School's Marketing and Communications strategic goals. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree and 4+ years of relevant experience Preferred Qualifications: 4+ years of relevant experience in marketing, public relations, event planning, journalism, or a related field. Excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to listen well and positively represent the School and its mission. Excellent written and oral communication skills; capable of making technical information exciting to a non-specialist audience, including broad non-scientific audiences. Strong project management and organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects and stay on deadline. Ability to think creatively and critically, and prioritize workload efficiently to complete deadlines and fluctuating priorities. Flexibility and ability to effectively work with a team in a fast-paced setting with a positive, can-do attitude and impeccable professionalism. Self-starter with initiative and a sense of accountability and ownership. Ability to lead, mentor, and motivate others. Confidence to deal with a range of people, good presentation skills, and the confidence to explain and sell ideas and concepts to directors and colleagues. Ability to network and foster relationships. Proficient with Microsoft Office programs, including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word Experience with WordPress or other web content management systems and social media platforms preferred. Strong graphic design/layout skills with experience in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign and Photoshop), MS Publisher, and Canva preferred. Ability to work well in a lean organization, and develop and demonstrate expertise in many facets of marketing. Familiarity with large-format printing is a plus. Available for minimal travel.
