The main purpose of the junior management accountant role is to support the Management Accountants within the organization to deliver robust and reliable of financial reports and information for management, which supports decision-making and budget management. This will include a commitment to
- Support on delivering the monthly management actuals information within a working-day 5 timeframe
- Support on delivering the monthly forecasting information within a working-day 10 timeframe as well as delivering into the periodic budgeting process when required
- Hold regular monthly finance review meetings with budget holders assigned to the Junior Management Accountant
- Working with members of the Finance team to improve team and organization performance. This will could include working on finance or other systems, finance process improvement or supporting other organisational areas to help them improve
The key responsibilities for the Junior Management Accountant role include;
Group Management Accounts
- Ownership of less complex P&L budget codes (as assigned to JMA)
- Regular finance meetings with key budget holders in relation to these areas
- Supporting on delivery of actual and forecast information into the management accounts of the budget codes above, including provision of accurate information
- Provision of accurately rolled forward documentation (including Management Accounts working files) and provision of timely updates when required. Will need to work with Management Accountants to develop and improve processes
Stakeholder Management
- Communication and reporting of variances within their assigned areas to Management Accountant and Head of FP&A
- Supporting on embedding and developing the financial acumen of the organisation through training, information-sharing and coaching of staff in how to effectively manage budgets
Monthly Budget Reviews
- Undertake regular monthly budget reviews with assigned budget areas
- Work with the financial accountant to investigate and review financial variances as required
Group Accounting
- Financial administration of the owned budgets (plus other areas as required) within the Group to ensure accurate recording of transactions (including intercompany)
Finance System
- A supporting role, working with other members of the Finance team/others in the organisation to develop the monthly reporting available from the Access Finance system including simple and clear budget performance reports and dashboards for all key budget holders
- Supporting on development of the transactional level reporting from the Access Finance system for effective financial management of projects
The person specification for the Junior Management Accountant role is;
ESSENTIAL
- AAT level qualification (or close to finished)
- Willingness to work towards CIMA/ACCA qualification (To be agreed with successful candidate)
- Ability to research, digest, analyse and present material clearly and concisely
- Ability to translate and narrate financial information to a range of stakeholders
- Excellent Excel and MS office skills
- Team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience of working in a fast-paced environment in an SME or similar
- Experience of working in a finance function during time of organisational change
- Honesty, integrity, reliability and professionalism
- Excellent planning, prioritisation and time management skills
- Flexibility and adaptability to juggle a range of different tasks
- Discretion and a good understanding of, and respect for, confidential issues
- Commitment to championing representation and inclusion at every level of the organisation with a proven ability to work with people from a wide range of backgrounds
