Main duties of the job

Education & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Finalist through a recognised professional qualification (CCAB) in accountancy (CIMA, ACA, CIPFA, ACCA) or exceptional part qualified with strong first degree and professional examination results.
Desirable criteria
  • CCAB qualified

  • First time passes in professional examinations
  • Attendance at an Accounting for Foundation Trusts courses

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Proven management accounting or equivalent experience
  • Experience of preparing accounts to tight timescales
  • Experience of presenting and explaining financial information in a manner that easily be understood by nonfinance managers
Desirable criteria
  • Extensive management accounting experience in similar organisations
  • Knowledge and understanding of the NHS financial environment
  • Knowledge and understanding of the complex arrangements for research funding in the NHS and the various funding streams e.g. NIHR, commercial, charity, grant etc

Skills and aptitudes

Essential criteria
  • Advanced analytical skills with the ability to communicate clearly the results of such analysis
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to make use of systems (e.g. Excel, Access, Microsoft Word) to prepare and present accurate, clear information and to identify what can be produced from other financial systems
  • Record of improving processes and reporting in previous roles.
  • Record of delivering to tight deadlines
