About the role
PBS4 support people in their own homes and we are currently seeking a Support Worker to support Sam, a 22 year-old Male who has been diagnosed with Autism, Learning disabilities and Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome.
Sam has a great sense of humour and infectious smile. He enjoys meeting and interacting with different people and can be very loud when he is happy. He can also be very affectionate at times.
Sam has many interests and hobbies, he like swimming and riding his scooter and also enjoys bouncing on trampolines. He loves farm animals, especially horses, cows and donkeys and loves to feed them.
Sam thoroughly enjoys going out in to the community and likes to go for walks with his team as it is a great opportunity for them to get to know each other.
Sam also enjoys cooking, preferably when he doesn't have to wait to long to try his creation! He loves music, singing, drumming and music therapy. He loves churches and visiting National Trust houses and he absolutely loves steam trains and traction engines.
During lockdown Sam has enjoyed spending time in his home doing arts and crafts, painting and colouring. He enjoys time relaxing in front of the TV and specifically likes Fun Song Factory, Thomas The Tank, Noddy and other children’s classics. Sam uses key words and phrases from programmes to communicate and has a good understanding of Makaton, although he won’t respond using Makaton.
He really enjoy intensive interaction and likes head tickles, foot rubs and deep pressure as well as hand massage and foot spa, however this has to be on his own terms and he will initiate this with you.
It is important for Sam to be supported by confident, happy, fun, smiley individuals that are able to set clear boundaries so that he feels safe. Transitions can be difficult for Sam and he uses NOW & NEXT with his team so he knows what is happening. Sam needs team members who aren’t afraid to have fun and be silly. Experience of Autism and Learning Disabilities are required and whilst experience of Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome is desirable, training can be provided.
