The City of Norfolk's Department of Utilities is seeking qualified candidates for a Maintenance Worker II in our Water Production Division. The Maintenance Worker II is needed to perform general labor duties to include the maintenance of equipment, fueling equipment, unloading materials using walk behind fork lift and standard fork lift. Providing building area maintenance. Driving large truck to load and unload solid trailers on plant site.
Essential Functions
Essential functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Repairing of water pipelines and various waterworks equipment such as chemical feeds, water filters, sedimentation basins, and various support treatment equipment.
- Responsible for delivering and applying chemicals, washing sedimentation basins, and providing building area maintenance.
- Digs and refills trenches and other excavations
- Cuts asphalt and concrete
- Maintains lawns
- Loads, unloads, lifts and carries tools, equipment, and chemicals
- Makes minor repairs to underground water service lines
- Requires knowledge of construction equipment, materials, and work tasks
Education/Experience
Work requires the ability to read and understand written instructions, to understand simple processes and the routine operation of machines. Level of knowledge equivalent to high school or equivalency.
One year experience as a Maintenance Worker, or successful completion of the Operations Apprentice program based on assignment.
Valid Driver's License

Work Location: 6040 Waterworks Road, Norfolk, Virginia
Work Hours: Monday through Friday; 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus.
This position is designated as an 'Essential' position and you may be required to work extended, rotating, after hours, weekends, and/or holiday shifts in response to emergencies and severe weather.**
