Location: Leicester
Salary: £24,000 - £29,000 per annum
Working hours: Full Time, 37.5 hours per week

Here within our Initial Accommodation and Support Services Contract, an opportunity has arisen for an experienced Maintenance Operative with strong interpersonal skills to work on a Permanent Contract. We focus on assisting individuals through the asylum system, ensuring that vulnerable asylum seekers have access to the support they need along with accommodation.

As the Maintenance Operative you will be responsible for the Maintenance of Property including; reporting faults using the Veco IT system to ensure all faults are reported and closed for their property portfolio, undertaking audit samples of external suppliers work and report findings and liaising with external sub-contractors to ensure access can be obtained, works are completed to agreed standards and the sub-contractors operatives are approved.

As a Maintenance Operative you will be responsible for Health & Safety, including; ensuring that the safety of all users of the property from a building standards is achieved and checking all relevant property reports before undertaking works in the properties (e.g. asbestos, dangerous persons,) or request additional reports if deemed appropriate by the MO (e.g. structural report, asbestos survey / test etc.).

As part of your role, you will be required to Manage Materials including; ensuring to only purchase materials from approved Serco suppliers and keep receipts for all transactions to identify and record what materials are used for each job / property. You will only purchase the agreed Serco standard materials unless alternative substitutions can be provide due to stock requirements.

You will remove all waste from properties when in attendance and ensure the waste is disposed of in approved license areas and re-cycled where possible. You will ensure all allocated KPI work is completed in advance of the scheduled completion date. Lastly, you will liaise with Housing Officer partners to ensure that any properties in the MO’s portfolio have been inspected at least once per calendar month with a documented report

Flexible Working Pattern

  • Mon to Fri 7.5 hours per day between 08:00 and 18:00 to meet the operational needs of the business.

On – Call Requirements & Out of Hours Working

  • There will be a requirement to undertake out of hours on call duties, working on a rota basis to ensure 24/7 emergency cover is provided as per our contractual responsibilities.

What you need to do the job

Previous experience as a Maintenance Operative would be an advantage.

You will need a willingness and ability to travel within the region and occasionally within the UK (a valid UK driver’s licence is essential). CRB Clearance and Security Clearance at CTC level (Counter Terrorism Check) is required (Serco Civil Government is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and all offers of employment are subject to security clearance checks and approval by the Home Office). Relevant trade qualifications are desired.
