Maintenance Engineer

Right now, we’re looking for a Maintenance Engineer to join our City Energy Solutions (CES) team based at our Cranbrook Energy Centre in Exeter, Devon. Here you’ll be responsible for completing routine and emergency maintenance to equipment within the district heating and energy generation schemes, which includes CHP engines, boilers, pump systems, electrical and control systems. You’ll respond to reports of broken or faulty items, conducting routine inspections of equipment and liaising with external specialists and contractors.

Key responsibilities include
- Plan, co-ordinate and complete maintenance activities for all mechanical, electrical, and C&I issues.
- Support the identification and implementation of improvements to optimise the day-to-day operational performance.
- Determine the scheduling of maintenance activities to minimise contract labour requirements.
- Providing expert technical advice to the Maintenance Team Leader.
- Contract/contractor management, ensuring appropriate safety assessments have been completed and performance is optimised.
- Analysing faults and implementing corrective action.
What we need from you
- Educated to HNC/NVQ Level 4, or equivalent, along with significant expertise in general engineering principles and expertise in a specialist skill area - C&I, Mechanical or Electrical.
- The ability to look for best practise, innovate and appropriately challenge existing processes to improve the plant operational and commercial performance.
- An IOSH (Managing Safely) or equivalent qualification, demonstrating a clear knowledge of safety practices and management.
- The capability and willingness to achieve E.ON’s required competency levels - Competent Person, Nominated Supervisor and Senior Authorised Person (where required).
- Contract Management skills and experience to appropriately challenge contractors on the methods, quality and standards of work.
- Competent in hazard identification, risk assessment and management of risks.
- Excellent understanding of the commercial and financial effects of plant operation.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to form effective working relationships and influence at all levels.
- A thorough and detailed understanding of the Electrical and Mechanical (E&M) Safety Rules, related to various Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS) and Local Management Instructions.
- The ability to provide and deliver expert advice and practical guidance.
It would be great if you had
- Suitable practical experience as a Competent Person, Nominated Supervisor or Senior Authorised Person.
- The ability to prioritise effectively and consistently deliver against tight time constraints.

- This role is based at our Cranbrook Energy Centre, Honiton Road, Clyst Honiton, Exeter, Devon, EX5 2DX with travel to other sites within the area.
- This role comes with a company vehicle.
- This role will involve joining an on-call rota.
- This is a permanent role.
