Maintenance Assistant
Forth Valley Royal Hospital

Full Time, Permanent (37.5 hours per week)
6 week operational rota
£21,709 - £23,603 per annum plus shift allowance
Here at Serco, we’re looking for a Maintenance Assistant to join us at the Forth Valley Royal Hospital, offering a unique opportunity to work in a diverse engineering environment providing a wide scope for development of skills and knowledge. The site has 860 beds and covers of approximately 95,000 square metres. The department operates a 24-hour 365 day service.
As the Maintenance Assistant you will undertake works following the guidance of the Maintenance Officer, technicians and craftsman, on all aspects of engineering plant and equipment for both planned and reactive maintenance. You will be working from training programmes, work procedures and operational manuals, recording and logging readings, carrying out basic adjustments and repairs with careful documentation.
You must be prepared to work in hazardous areas and confined spaces taking all safety measures to prevent danger, avoid injury and prevent damage to equipment. You’ll undertake essential repair works and general maintenance carrying out PPM inspections and tasks. You will understand the CAFM system and have experience in inspecting and testing ancillary equipment and COSHH. You will need to prioritise your workload and be able to work independently meeting tight deadlines.
What you’ll need to do the role:
- 3 years minimum previous experience in a similar maintenance role and have worked in a similar role within a large complex service organisation.
- Knowledge of building and engineering trades will be an advantage.
- Professional approach and strong awareness to health and safety.
- Good communication and customer service skills and be able to work well in high pressure situations.
- Problem solving skills.
- Self-motivated.
- This is a physically demanding role, and you may be exposed to an unpleasant working environment.
- You may also be required to work overtime to carry out emergency repairs and participate in an on-call rota.
