My engineering team is made up of highly skilled professionals across a range of engineering disciplines (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil and Control & Instrumentation) with the responsibility of maintaining the sites Plant systems including the site’s infrastructure. They provide a focal point of engineering expertise and ownership for a portfolio of assigned plant systems and assets with high nuclear, radiological, environmental, and business significance. They deliver comprehensive engineering services to customers and stakeholders, maintaining long term safety, performance, reliability, material condition and compliance in this highly regulated sector. I’m seeking an Electrical Apprentice to join the engineering team at Dungeness A site. During the Apprenticeship the successful candidate will work alongside the existing engineering team to gain hand on training and experience to a high standard. They will also be attending off site training to gain the qualifications required to achieve a level 6 recognised apprenticeship.
Site Information
Dungeness A Site is located on a 22 hectare site of special scientific interest on the Kent coast. The site stopped generating electricity in 2006 with a lifetime output of 120 terawatt hours. The site is now in its decommissioning phase and is making steady progress, including demolishing its turbine hall and decontaminating its ponds. Preparations and enabling activities are now underway at Dungeness to facilitate the removal and disposal of the boilers.
Trainee Electrical Engineer
An Electrical Engineer specifies and oversees the maintenance on systems and equipment located on the site. The Electrical maintenance engineers play a key role in ensuring that all electrical equipment on the site functions safely, efficiently & remains complainant with all statutory legislation.
Key duties and responsibilities:
Assist the Engineering Section Head to ensure that site plant is maintained and is suitably safe, efficient, and reliable- Provide technical support for maintenance activities where required
- Investigation of emergent plant or equipment deficiencies to allow prompt & efficient rectification
- Provide technical support to current and future project design and implementation
- Provide technical input to ensure that plant performance and details of component defects are considered as part of the overall system or asset management and future investment
- Ensure that appropriate Quality Assurance measures are applied to all work
- Ensure that work is completed to the requirements of the specifications, including safety and quality aspects
- Seek and identify opportunities to allow themselves to develop and regard new tasks as a learning opportunity
Minimum of 102 UCAS points and three A levels (A* to C) including Maths and a Science subject, or a relevant level 3 qualification such as a BTEC level 3 extended diploma with a strong mathematical element- Effective oral & written communication skills

Training Provider Information
National College for Nuclear, Cannington- Length of training – 48 months
- Training will be delivered via block release
