Purpose of the job role (Trainee CNC Setter/Operator)

Setting and operating CNC multi-tasking lathes to manufacture components from raw material (bar stock) for our internal assembly flow lines to the highest quality and on time.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Setting and operating CNC lathes to produce small to medium size batches of work in a timely manner.
  • Inspecting work to Engineering drawings using various measuring equipment and reporting any quality defects to the machine shop supervisor.
  • Daily, weekly and monthly maintenance checks on machines, including maintaining good housekeeping standards and reporting any issues promptly to supervision.
  • Optimising efficiencies through reduced set-up and cycle times, plus tool life monitoring
  • Deburring, cleaning, final inspection, and completion of all traceability documentation
  • Adhering to Health and Safety procedures
  • Carry out such other duties that may be reasonably requested.

Working hours:

37.5 hours per week on a rotating shift pattern (1 week of early’s followed by 1 week of lates)

Early: Mon-Fri: 6pm to 2pm. Late: Mon-Thurs: 2pm to 10pm and Fri: 2pm to 7.30pm.

Following the Apprenticeship they aim for apprentices to become permanent CNC Machine Operatives within their business.

This role is supported by the Level 3 Engineering Technical Support Technician Qualification delivered by LAT Apprenticeships. During is typically 42 - 48 months. This will consist of 20% offsite learning, which will take place during term time at The Leigh UTC, Dartford one day a week (Wednesday 8.30am - 5pm). Travel costs to The Leigh UTC will be covered by Amphenol.
