Summary of Job Duties:
The Press Operator completes tasks in the print shop, to support Threshold labeling, marketing, and in-plant printing goals. Part of the expected duties of a press operator include cleaning and maintaining the presses, making minor repairs, and maintaining supply levels. Press operator will make quick changes cleaning the plates, ink fountains and unit cylinders after each run. Press operators will be required to keep the work area clean and free of excess debris. The bulk of the hands-on production work in the printing industry is done by press operators. The job is a position that requires skills related to quality control, monitoring machine operation and problem solving. Press operators set up and run machines that produce a variety of printed products, including lithographic, digital, letterpress, flexographic and offset printing presses.
Specific Job Duties:
- Press Operators must be able to focus on the work they’re producing, adapt to changes quickly, and make mechanical adjustments to maintain high quality printing of business forms, literature and other Threshold printed business materials.
- Strong mechanical aptitude is a must. Loading and feeding paper, registering plates, maintaining ink and water balance, and monitoring the press as jobs are run, are all requirements for this position.
- Operators will clean the press at the end of their shift and maintain a clean, safe, organized area while working. Due to the in-house nature of Threshold’s print department, operators can expect to have changes to scheduling throughout the day.
- Press operator will monitor base stock usage, and report to supervisor of stock inventory when it gets low.
- Press operators will monitor supply usage, log chemical and ink usage, and report to supervisor of inventory needs.
- Press operators will maintain a log of printed jobs, report KPI and maintain 5S daily.
- Ensures equipment meets all safety guidelines and operator will follow all safety rules.
- Complete documentation and in station quality checks.
- Perform all other tasks as assigned by Threshold management.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
- Ability to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot printing and finishing machinery.
- Skill level to produce multi color printing.
- Basic math Skills including division, addition, subtraction, and multiplication.
- Computer skills, Excel and Workfront applications.
- Must have good visual acuity.
- Must be able to lift 35 pounds.
- Must read, write and speak English.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
Skills and/or Training Desired:
1. Minimum of 2 Years printing press operating experience.
2. Minimum of 2 Years’ experience operating complex machinery.
3. Training or experience in Bindery functions. Label Finisher
4. Training or experience in Label Layout/Graphic Arts software
5. Experience with clerical office duties, filing and scanning documents
6. Show mechanical ability and good organizational skills
7. Understanding of safety guidelines and SOP’s, OSHA training
