Job description
We're looking for a highly-skilled, full-time ML Engineer with experience in Natural Language Processing to join our team and help us revolutionise how people discover and apply for jobs.
You will play a key role in designing and engineering our first product: a brand-new greenfield project to help students and job seekers find their dream careers. This product will be our first step towards achieving our company's mission of transforming the recruitment landscape for the better.
We're in the early stages of developing our product, so we're looking for individuals that want to be highly involved in the design and planning process. We need people who can use their passion, expertise in machine learning and comprehensive understanding of NLP to drive the creation of cutting-edge new features.
Your Skills
- Solid grasp of theoretical and practical machine learning techniques, algorithms, evaluation metrics, and Natural Language Processing concepts.
- Proficiency in Python, including its scientific libraries (e.g., NumPy, Pandas, scikit-learn).
- Competent in working with transformers, such as BERT, GPT, or similar models and popular ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, Jax) and Hugging Face Transformers.
- Proficiency in data preprocessing, feature engineering, and data visualisation.
- Experience in deploying AI solutions in cloud environments (e.g. Kubeflow).
- Familiarity with containerization technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes.
- Software engineering experience, including best practices and knowledge of some programming languages other than Python.
The Role
- Working with the rest of the team to plan, design and engineer product features based on technical feasibility.
- Interfacing with NLP data at scale, assessing quality, and building several components of our data ingestion and processing pipelines.
- Leveraging ML models in the language domain (and beyond) to solve challenges in the real world. Selecting and motivating solutions fit for purpose, based on good overall understanding of ML practices.
- Creating domain-specific document representations, applying clustering algorithms to large datasets, designing and training bespoke deep learning modules in the language domain, and interfacing with LLMs.
- Productionising ML and AI solutions for deployment to the cloud.
Employee Benefits
- Hybrid and flexible working with offices in Oxford and London.
- A chance to truly shape the development of a brand new product and make your opinions heard as a founding member of the team.
- Stock options.
- TBD! You can help us shape our company benefits as a member of the team.
Who You Are
- An engineer at heart.
- Motivated and passionate about quality, always suggesting how we can do better.
- Able to work in small teams with little management. Able to take initiative.
- Able to communicate easily with others and hate tech jargon.
- Successful candidates must have permission to work in the UK by the time of starting employment.
Who We Are
Veer is a small team of engineers and academics from London and Oxford with a passion and a plan for changing the recruitment landscape for the better.
We're making it our mission to rebuild the world's recruitment infrastructure from the ground up, questioning every assumption and belief about how these systems should work in pursuit of the best user experience, from career discovery to interviews.
We want to create beautiful, engaging and thoughtful software that does away with the soul-draining relics of the modern job search and banishes text-based job descriptions, CVs and cover letters into obsolescence.
