Job description

London Foundation Analysts

MI5's mission is to keep the places, people and communities that we love safe. Our Foundation Analysts are at the heart of this, finding details that help us stop threats and prevent harm. It’s a varied role, which is why increasing the diversity of our people is needed more than ever before.

Our Foundation Analysts have different backgrounds and come from different communities – but the thing that unites them is their passion for protecting the people and places they love.

There’s no one ‘type’ of person we recruit. Although you’ll have a C or 4 in GCSE English or equivalent qualification, we aren’t looking for someone who has analyst experience or a degree. It’s more important that you’re curious and a team player, with a logical, proactive approach.

As a Foundation Analyst you’ll play a crucial role in keeping the country safe. If you relish learning new things, then we’ll teach you everything you need to know. This will be your first rung on the ladder for a long and fulfilling career in analysis

Overall, your programme will last for around 4 years. You’ll initially complete eight weeks of full-time training where you’ll learn more about the organisation, our data, and processes. Your 4 years will be split into 3 different analyst postings. After 18 months in an analyst role, you’ll then move onto your second analyst role which lasts 12 months. This role will involve shift work on a 24/7 basis, which you’ll know about in advance, so you can plan your life outside of work. You’ll then move to your third and final role on the programme, which lasts 18 months.

For more information, please visit the Foundation Analyst page on our website.

The application window for the London Foundation Analyst programme will open on 6th February 2023. In the meantime, we are looking for individuals who are from an Ethnic Minority background*, to register their interest in this forthcoming opportunity. As part of the registration of interest, you will be invited to an online chat session prior to the campaign opening.

Please note that a registration of interest does not constitute a job application, nor will such registration have any bearing upon the recruitment process itself. Any individuals who register their interest and who decide subsequently to apply to London Foundation Analyst programme, will need to complete an application form once the window for applications has opened.

  • We are confining registrations of interest from an Ethnic Minority background only, due to their current under-representation in our workforce. Once the application window has opened, we will welcome applications from all candidates, regardless of their ethnic background, gender, disability and/or any other characteristic(s). All applications will be assessed solely on merit.
