Description
Logistics Manager
£30-£35k Annual Salary
Shipping Solutions European and UK
Build and maintain a table of costs and service levels by shipment mode and haulier from Europe and from UK Suppliers.
Consider full loads, part loads, intermodal.
Review and provide advice on costs, timeframes, and freight options to the estimating team and on issuance of quotations to clients.
Ensure an up-to-date breakdown of product quantities by pallet/load and haulage options are understood and maintained.
Review the specialist vehicle options for UK delivery to constrained sites, cost, and availability via our European hauliers or from UK storage.
Seek to secure best pricing and build relationships with hauliers.
Storage
Liaise with UK storage facilities in the case deliveries need to be held by a shipper for a few days or need to be diverted to UK storage in the worst case.
Provide a monthly storage capability update and storage costs for UK storage used by the company.
Manage stock for the company and maintain a control document of stock levels in and out.
Review alternative storage options should they be required for sites in the North, Midlands and South.
Delivery Management
Once order confirmations are received from the customer via finance, delivery schedules should be agreed or re-confirmed with purchasing and site management, to allow site to book in deliveries. The site management relationship is fundamental to successful deliveries. A project folder should be maintained for all orders by customer.
Check finance has placed orders that meet the delivery schedules, you are acting as the client delivery manager.
Inform the project manager and finance if you believe there are anomalies.
Advise site of additional costs/timeframes if delivery requirements change – ensure PO’s and order confirmations are issued for any amendments by finance and prior to delivery.
Arrange shipment with supplier/haulier.
Prior to deliveries, re-confirm with the customer and issue consignment notes.
Consignment notes should cover basic details of weights and sizes of packages and contents per package. Ensure these match the order requirement, if not advise finance, purchasing, client and determine the reason.
Before delivery ensure with finance that the customers credit position will cover the delivery, if not advise the project manager or MD to determine options. If in doubt hold with the haulier or divert to storage
Re-confirm timeframe with customer.
Be prepared for the unexpected, cancellation of delivery or change of destination
Ensure we have POD after delivery to site
Advise finance of delivery to site for invoicing
Ensure a weekly shipping log is maintained so that a snapshot can be seen by sales and finance
General
Maintain documents to show what deliveries have been made from bulk orders so a snapshot can be accessed at any time
Amend control documents based upon additional customer orders or changes.
With finance advise customers via standard letter of price changes to materials or shipping costs.
Keep the sale and estimating team up to date with seasonal extension of transport timeframes.
At all times ensure you are understanding the challenges site have and how quickly their issues can change on site.
Ensure the Technical Manager, Account Manager and Admin Manager is updated regularly.
