The Department of Neuroradiology seeks to appoint one Locum Consultant fixed term for 12 months. In Interventional and Diagnostic Neuroradiology to support/consolidate expansion of Interventional Neuroradiology particularly weekend cover for subarachnoid haemorrhage / coiling and thrombectomy for stroke. An additional post in response to increasing demand/numbers of thrombectomies and now formal commissioning of the service.
We seek an enthusiastic Locum Interventional and Diagnostic Neuroradiologist who is keen to join our expanding and forward looking neuro-interventional and diagnostic service. The post has arisen to support an increase in neuro-intervention, particularly 7 day working, with the unit currently providing a 7 day coiling service and 24/7 thrombectomy.
St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest healthcare units in the UK accommodating more than 1000 beds and employing 6000 members of staff. It provides general acute services alongside all major tertiary disciplines including neurosciences, cardiothoracic and specialist women’s and children’s services. The Trust is a designated Hyperacute Stroke Unit and Major Trauma Centre and has been granted Foundation Trust status.
The Trust provides tertiary neuroscience care to a regional population of 3.5 million in South West London, Surrey and Sussex and district neurology services to the local population. The clinical services are housed in the purpose built Atkinson Morley Wing of St George’s Hospital, opened in 2003 to accommodate the relocation of neurosciences from Atkinson Morley’s Hospital in Wimbledon.

The post may include an average 1 to 2 PA per week general Neuroradiology reporting. There will be SPA time of 1.5 PA. This will be reviewed annually at job planning and increased if additional duties are taken on including teaching and management. The current rota is a 1 in 4 with support via joint working with Kings due to a colleague being currently on sabbatical. The arrangement is temporary and we will aim to return to a 1 in 5 once the new appointee is in place and our colleague returns from sabbatical. Note the way the rota is job planned the 2 off weeks which on the 1 in 5 amount to 20 weeks per year include allowance for full annual and study leave. The unrostered 3 plus days in week 5 include more than 1.5 PA SPA time. There is the occasional night and weekend as part of the INR rota where the INR covers the diagnostic on call of the Pan London Fellow. (This will stop once the additional Diagnostic Consultant is in post). There is remote access to the Trust PACS, office space and secretarial/admin support will be provided.
