We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated people to work both inside and outside in a customer facing environment. As a lock and weir keeper you will be joining a dynamic team
Responsibilities include:
o Managing and regulating water levels
o Providing safe passage to boaters and managing activities on and around the lock site, associated structures and reach
o Assisting colleagues and customers with local expertise and knowledge to ensure effective management of the navigation of the river
o Looking after lock buildings, facilities and grounds to provide a safe and clean environment
o Providing a timely and effective service and response to incidents through a 24 hour duty desk.
o Maintaining and developing health & safety good practices
o Developing and maintaining a strong customer service and acting as an ambassador for the Environment Agency
o Liaising and working with professional partners
o Ensuring efficient record keeping and information storage
o Collecting customer payments including license sales and tolls, and reconciling and managing petty cash.
Experience/skills required
o Strong customer focus and communication skills particularly face to face and over the phone
o Well organised and methodical with attention to detail
o Able to prioritise and highlight potential issues
o Achieves results and delivers outcomes
o Able to use standard IT packages efficiently and to learn specialised systems
o A quick learner who can work effectively and efficiently on their own or as part of a team
o Able to swim
o Able to drive and has a valid driving license
We require candidates that can cover the following stretch of river Lechlade down to Teddington
Working hours: Averages out at 37.5hr per week across the year but hours as per below.
July and August: 9am to 6:30pm
May, June and September: 9am to 6pm
April and October: 9am to 5pm
Salary £13.02 per hour plus shift allowance, London waiting applicable on some locations
