Applications are invited for two full time Band 5 Healthcare Scientist Practitioner posts (1 x permanent and 1 x fixed term 2-year contract) in the Aberdeen Genetics and Molecular Pathology Laboratory – a UKAS accredited member laboratory of the Scottish Strategic Network for Genomic Medicine, funded by the National Services Division.

Experience and qualifications

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals with appropriate qualifications and experience. BSc Honours Degree (or equivalent) in biological sciences discipline and working experience of relevant methods within a genetics laboratory are essential requirements for this post.

The post holders will work as members of the team in the delivery of routine technical aspects of the diagnostic service including PCR, Sanger sequencing, microarray and next generation sequencing along with other laboratory duties including stock check, batch acceptance testing and procedures associated with general laboratory upkeep.

Applicants must be comfortable using computer and high level automation, be flexible and able to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team.

Excellent communication skills, meticulous attention to detail, ability to follow standard operating procedures and deliver training are also requirements of this post. Previous experience in NHS or a clinical diagnostic laboratory will be advantageous.

There will be considerable interaction with other staff groups within the department including administrative, technical and scientific staff.

The shift pattern for this post is Monday to Friday 9.00am to 5.00pm.
