Role Overview:
Genus ABS is recruiting a Production Technician to join the team in Glan Y Wern, North Wales, to raise calves and juveniles and prepare recipient heifers for embryo transfers.
The focus will be to constantly work as a team, ensuring the care of high-value animals, and supporting the development of future generations of NuEra Genetics™ and De Novo Genetics and their impact on the herds of Genus ABS customers around the world.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Day to day husbandry of animals by following protocols to ensure consistency in care. Working with high value animals to support the development of both NuEra and DeNovo future generations and their impact in our customer herds around the globe.
Including:

Feeding calves, youngstock and heifers

Calving heifers
Be responsible for daily tractor and machinery work including:

Bedding
-
Feeding
-
Mucking out
Along with the servicing and upkeep of machinery on site.

Responsible for the hygiene and cleanliness of calf housing and equipment and calving environment.
Collect data and work with different technologies to measure KPIs, including:

Colostrum absorption
-
Daily liveweight gains
-
Feed intakes
-
Treatments and antibiotic usage
-
Conception rates
Follow a synchronisation protocol to prepare recipient heifers for Embryo Transfer which includes inserting CIDRs and giving hormone injections. Conditions must be kept at an optimum and consistent to ensure good conception rates.
Requirements:
- Drive License

Availbility to travel to other production sites if required

Previous experience in an animal handling role and caring for calves (younstock advantageous)
