York Swimming Academy Ltd. is looking for passionate, enthusiastic and customer focused individuals to train as lifeguards to join our team working across our venues in York. We are offering to provide a small number of individuals with the RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ). Once qualified, the successful applicant will be expected to:
- Supervise customers throughout our facilities, ensuring their safety and satisfaction at all times;
- Carry out rescues and administer first aid as required;
- Assist the Swimming Teachers in setting up the pool for lessons;
- Maintain our venues to a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene;

Training Process
The successful applicant must be available to attend the NPLQ training course at New Earswick Pool in York on the following dates:
Tuesday 11th April 2023 -- 08:30-17:30
Wednesday 12th April 2023 -- 08:30-17:30
Thursday 13th April 2023 -- 08:30-17:30
Friday 14th April 2023 -- 08:30-17:30
Saturday 15th April 2023 -- 08:30 onwards (TBC for assessment)
100% attendance is mandatory and every candidate attending the NPLQ course must be at least 16-years-old at the time of taking the NPLQ final assessment and be able to:
- Jump/dive into deep water
- Swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds
- Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water
- Tread water for 30 seconds
- Surface dive to the floor of the pool
- Climb out unaided without ladder/steps and where the pool design permits
The successful applicant will be required to pay a £65 registration fee to attend this course.
Hours of Work
Once qualified, the successful applicant will be required to undertake 10 hours of volunteer work with York Swimming Academy. Alongside this, the successful applicant will be offered a Casual Contract, with successful applicants joining a rota for regular or ad-hoc lifeguard shifts. Shifts are available throughout the week and across several venues in York.
