Job description

Job Introduction

** At Saga we’re radically flexible which means our colleagues have total autonomy over where they work – home, hybrid or hub. This role has a hybrid element which means our team come together when we need to collaborate.

The Life Editor for Saga Media is a role for someone that wants to bring the world inspirational tales from - and for - the over-50s market. Working with the CCO, you’ll be entirely responsible for researching, developing and writing the stories – along with freelance support – that need to be told. Stories from the experienced generations who have lessons to inspire our readers with, as well as cultivating a strong pipeline of celebrity interviews to get their perspective on life and the inspiration that can bring.

So whether that’s stunt drivers that refuse to hang up the helmet, celebrities lifting the lid on the things that they’re loving in this period of their life or just hearing the jaw-dropping tales from the ‘quiet ones’ that have never had a chance to be told – we want someone passionate about finding these stories and bringing them to life through words, pictures and video.

So if you love to make creative, evocative content that tells the stories to prove stereotypes are pure nonsense, send us your CV(oh, and a great covering letter explaining the job is the perfect fit for you).. We can’t wait to hear from the perfect candidate.

Main Responsibilities
  • Developing a clear, monthly content plan for the stories we’re going to tell.
  • Being the point of contact for the video and newsletter teams to understand what content will work and where.
  • Handling budget for freelance contributions.
  • Creating clean, exciting and inspirational copy every time for our discerning audience.
  • Working with every section of the site to ensure transparency of content, to allow us to have great inter-team discussions, brainstorms and ideas.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Previous experience writing clear, attractive content
  • Comfort with interviewing people
  • Working with and writing for the over-50s market is preferable, but not essential.
  • A creative mind.
  • A knack for storytelling with a great turn of phrase.
  • Ability to write in a simple, personal and warm tone.
  • A love of interviewing and ‘getting to the heart’ of a person’s story.
  • Empathy and understanding.

Our Saga Values:

  • Precision Pace - Always owning and making things happen.
  • Empathy – Always aware of others.
  • Curiosity – Always asking why.
  • Collaboration – Always one team, the Saga team!
