How you'll make a difference
You will make a difference as a Library Supervisor by working with the community to help give people access to libraries. You will be encouraging staff in the library’s interaction with the community and development of individuals.
What will you be doing?
- You will be responsible for the day to day running of a branch library or libraries including the safety and security of buildings, use of facilities and equipment in line with Property Services.
- You shall lead a team of Library Assistants in the delivery of library services and support teams in other service points as required, including casual staff and volunteers who support work with Children, IT and outreach services.
- You’ll be working with the Group Librarian to recruit train and develop staff as well as implementing local priorities and service plans.
- You will carry out various administrative tasks to support the operation of the library including monitoring of expenditure, maintenance of statistics, placing orders relating to the branch and liaison with contractors, including cleaning staff.
- You shall ensure staff work to the policies of the library service and South Gloucestershire Council and take action where necessary. This will involve carrying out 1-2-1 meetings with staff, ensuring monies received at the library are managed in line with financial procedures and that health and safety policies are adhered to.
- You will be undertaking the physical aspects of the job including shelving and counter work, lifting, and carrying of books and other materials.

- You will have wide experience working in a library environment, delivering a high quality customer focused service.
- You will be able to demonstrate an ability to manage staff, including supervision, training, recruitment and development of a team.
- You will be self-motivated, be able to use initiative, have good organisation and time management.
- You shall have an ability to understand and deal with issues that arise in the library, problem solve and take the necessary action within required policies; in a well-managed way.
