Library Services Coordinator

£18.95 per hour

South East London

Full Time – 35 hours a week

9.00am – 5.00pm

2 month contract

Start – Tuesday 30th May 2023

Sue Hill Recruitment are delighted to be recruiting for a Library Service Coordinator for our education provider client in South East London.

Main purpose of the job

As a member of Library Services, the post holder will be key in the delivery of service and co-ordinating the service for all students and stakeholders. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that they, and all Library Services staff, deliver the best possible service and high level of customer care and focus at all times. The post holder is also key in supporting the Learning Resources Manager in the development and running of the service.

The post holder will be required to work alone at regular intervals, occasionally not within the Study Zone but roving around the Institution and is responsible for providing support and advice on learning, teaching and research requirements, making priority decisions and the management of the day-to-day operations and staffing of the Study Zone.

The Study Zone is an extremely busy environment and the postholder is expected to manage, prioritise and delegate work accordingly whilst remaining focused on the provision of services

There may be a requirement for the post holder to be present during opening hours during the weekends or to support short course delivery and other activities, e.g. the Degree Show, Open Days

Duties and responsibilities

· Provide day-to-day operational control and supervision of the Study Zone Enquiries Desk, Library Management System (LMS) Symphony, book, periodical and e-resource collections. This includes the day-to-day maintenance of LMS, reporting any faults via the Sirsi Dynix Support Centre, the monitoring of late returns and fine payments. This also includes ensuring all collections held are available for all stakeholders.

· Ensure full liaision with stakeholders at all levels, including answering specialist subject enquiries and both developing and maintaining resources for all subject areas covered in new and existing courses and priority areas of research within the library.

· Ensure Library Services provides learning, teaching and research resources, user support liaison and skills instruction to all students.

· Order stock and consumables for the Study Zone in a timely manner, ensuring best value is achieved and all transactions are in accordance with the Financial Regulations.

· Raise any tickets via the JIRA ticketing system for issues within the Study Zone, ensuring any impact to teaching or learning for all stakeholders is communicated quickly and alternative arrangements offered.

· Supervision of the Learning Resource Assistant and the Library Services Casual Assistants.

· Responsible for inventory management and control for Library Services in accordance with financial and audit requirements. This will include the co-ordination and management of an annual stock check, weeding items which are no longer required to meet teaching, learning and research requirements, raising Asset Disposal Forms for the disposal of any stock in accordance.

· Work continuously with the Learning Resources Manager to develop Library Services and its collections in line with Institutions strategic objectives. In addition to this promotion of Library Services and to gain user feedback: this is likely to involve the development of an ongoing marketing campaign to ensure maximum awareness of the benefits of the resources held by Library Services.

· Co-ordinate a programme where students can continually develop their knowledge of the resources held within the Study Zone. This will include creating opportunities for students to develop their own knowledge with drop in training sessions, producing online tutorials, user manuals and guides.

· Responsible for overseeing the digital content placed on the intranet pages and the VLE for the CLR service.

· Attend course committees and meetings with academic staff where appropriate and as required.

· Contribute to the process of identifying training needs and to the delivery of training to staff and students in the use of the repository, the VLE and web 2.0 technologies.

· Ensure acquisition and use of material conforms with current copyright legislation.

· Catalogue new acquisitions according to AACR2 and MARC21 standards, as well as classifying and maintaining the relevant classification schemes.

· Contribute to the process of identifying training needs and to the delivery of training to all stakeholders in the use of the VLE and online resources including e-books and e-journals.

Person Specification

· A relevant honours degree within Library and Information or extensive Library experience from within an academic environment

· Working knowledge of forward looking Higher Education Information Systems

· Demonstrable operational use of the software technologies underpinning virtual learning environments (VLE)

· Experience of developing and delivering training for staff and students

· Relevant experience of working in Library services, including service development, operational planning and delivery

· Practical knowledge of VLE material development and the ability to impart this to academic staff

· Practical knowledge and experience of Library Management Systems including systems administration, acquisition, cataloguing and classification principles, AACR2, MARC21 and classification schemes.

· Ability to work autonomously and on own initiative
